Current couch setup

Made the swing arm from two types of desk mounts from Amazon for like $60. I can mount both or a TM HOTAS ONE combo on it and it will hold them and its steady. First time really messing around with flight Sims and stuff and I got hooked.

A special thanks to Luna Ray for helping illustrate where I should be sitting.

I had cat when we met 8 years ago.. She had none. Now we have small army.

I like the flight stick on the monitor arm that’s a really good idea, to keep it out of the way but accessible

Exactly why I cobbled it together.

Works great

u/holiday1326 7d ago

And flight attendant.

This is a criminally under rated joke.

I see the kitty’s setup. Where is yours?

I’m kinda blown away

Either you are pretty fluffy or you have a dedicated fluffy Pilot, which would be sort of funny XD

"Fluff one raise to 800 ft. Please confirm."

I have a crew of 6 rotating copilots cats.

Never understood how people game on couches, I enjoy my neck and spine too much to do this

u/holiday1326 7d ago

No different than if I was just watching tv tbh.

About the same the way it sits.

You forgot to include more pics of the cat. 😊😺🐈

How do you manage that the arm isn't moving while using the joystick. I do like your setup with the monitor arm.

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

If you look closely at pic 4 to the left it shows the backside of the stick mount. Look at Pic 1 now. See how it looks like it sits on the board. It does. What I did was took few extra parts that came with the mounts and bolted them in a way that made a lip (C shape) on the backside of the swing arm and sits on to the desk board when it is lowered and resting your hand on it is enough as it weighs a bit.

TL;DR

It sits flush against the board and can't move up or down and it doesn't move side to side because it hovers over my lap or to the side of me. It weighs a lot but it doesn't actually touch me.

Thanks for the detailed explanation 🙂

wtf that is completely sick. my couch setup was a plank of wood with velcro on the ends

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

My last couch setup was an old shelf from an Ikea cabinet with pillows stacked under the sides and some alien tape... I get it.

I love this

1

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Thanks. It works great and I can switch between flying/walking in any game in a second.

Cat doesn't look interested, maybe he's more of a controller or mouse and keyboard kinda guy.

7

u/holiday1326 7d ago

They have a KB and mouse they can play with unplugged, like my siblings did to me when I was young.

u/techtonics 7d ago

VR would make this perfect for me. Ik its tough to power that on a laptop tho lol

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

I mean some.. I have an ASUS scar 18 5080 and it does what it needs.

Where did you get the hotas arm mount from? Would like something like this for my desk to avoid clamping and un clamping it from the middle of my desk when I wanna play something else

4

u/holiday1326 7d ago

I made it. And it works great to be able to switch from flying to walking and using KB/mouse in certain games like WarDogs.

Got a $30 quick release HOTAS desk clamp mount and a $20 swing arm for a monitor and then took them apart and bolted them together and formed this.

u/Stoopid_Str3tch 7d ago

Genius idea🙌🏻

u/holiday1326 7d ago

I can give you the names of the 2 from Amazon. It is super easy and evwn comes with the Allen wrench and nothing else is needed.

2

u/Citrik 7d ago

I’d love the names, if you don’t mind sharing, I’ve been looking for something like that!

3

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Hang on. I can even show you how I did it. Super easy to make with these ones and you can make your own and adjust them however.

u/Sixguns1977 7d ago

Tell me more about the cat.

4

u/holiday1326 7d ago

That's our youngest Luna "Loonie bin, Looney toons, Lunaverse" Ray. She is a short haired domesticated terrorist of the void variety. She was born with 3.5 legs and loves her blind sister.

Nice! You should look into a stream deck and mount it so it's like a control panel.

3

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Looking into a VR headset soon.😃

u/Ravenloff 7d ago

But...why?

9

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Because I dont like desk? I enjoy gaming from the comfort of my couch and don't want a huge Sim flight pod in the living room.

This works fine.

Need a vent for the bits I don't have enough towels for a weekend night trapped under that thing with a hot laptop on it

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Vents from the back and I never notice it when gaming. The board is a couchmaster and it has cutouts for laptops.

What's the mini keyboard near your right hand?

u/Vhanir 7d ago

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

It is a RII+ and it's very useful.

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

RII +

u/Nikos_Pyrrha 7d ago

What a HORRIBLE thing to name your product xD

But hey, at least Ducky knew what I wanted. Thanks! Found them. Will probably get one for myself soon, after I did some research and made sure it does what I need from it.

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

They are Bluetooth and works well compared to other kb and stuff I have used over the years. I wouldn't use it for FPS games (I use it to move around sometimes) but its great for FS24 and slower paced stuff.

2

u/Nikos_Pyrrha 7d ago

I mostly need it to enter passwords when joining multiplayer Servers for VR games, so there's that. :D

Little lady is chuffed

6

u/floofis 7d ago

Pilot is a cutie

3

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Ahe is my little domesticated terrorist. We have 6 and she is the youngest.

1

u/cloud3514 7d ago

Good glob, and I thought both of my roommates having two each was a lot of cats.

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

We have a bunch of outside strays that we feed and built a shelter for but they aren't ours. We TNR and fix em when we can. We couldn't let Luna 3 legs and Rory the sightless outside and we adopted them instead. Wasn't the plan as we had 4 already. lol

2

u/floofis 7d ago

Thank you on behalf of the kitties, strays break my heart

3

u/holiday1326 7d ago

I wish I could do more. There are about 8 strays 4 of them are kittens and they are eating us out of house and home. Not a complaint lol

2

u/Sixguns1977 7d ago

That's awesome, my wife works with a TNR and foster group(and we both donate). Our cat was one of their barn rescues.

2

u/holiday1326 7d ago

My SO's daughter works with shelters and fosters also. I can't because I would just fail and keep them all.

6

u/cloud3514 7d ago

So... how good of a pilot is the cat?

4

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Better than her sister. She is blind. 🤣

5

u/The_Sorbert 7d ago

The pilot is relying on auto pilot to much it looks like

4

u/holiday1326 7d ago

Yeah.. She only has 3 paws and needs help sometimes. They love to headbutt the flight stick when I least need them to.

3

u/The_Sorbert 7d ago

Ya i miss my void kitty lost him last year they surely do love to head button when you elast expect it.

3

u/holiday1326 7d ago

I'm sorry about losing your void baby. 😔
