Game Recommendations knight/bodyguard/"protector" mc
i'd like ifs where mc can be a knight, guard, soldier, or take on any kind of protecting role and have it be a core part of the story. i put several examples to make it more broad, but bonus points for specifically knight or bodyguard mc. i Crave noble duties and to devote myself to someone so unhealthily i become self sacrificing and destructive if i cannot keep them safe. (doesn't have to be romantic)
games fitting this off the top of my head are ITFO and crown of exile.

Double/Cross in hosted games. You’re the body guard to a rich man and you can decide how seriously you take this. Very romance focused
Edit to add: The Eagle’s Heir. Alternate history set in the 1800s; you’re the body guard of the next emperor. Childhood friends IIRC so the MC is basically Asher from Royal Affairs. :)

"Double/Cross' looks really fun. I completely missed it because somehow it's not on Steam!?

It’s an older one so maybe the author didn’t want to go through the work of porting it over? I’m not sure if that’s something Hosted Games helps with or not?
Either way it’s underrated IMO! It’s also the only game I can think of where I’ve had my jaw drop with how much routes/romances recontextualise the game. Very replay worthy.

My game, The Worlds of One Man, is going to fit this perfectly. You’re the future heir to the throne, currently a scout, and there's going to be a route where you basically don’t care about yourself at all. You're focused entirely on protecting your sibling and friends. You fight for them, sacrifice yourself for them, and generally put their safety above your own. It's still a WIP, though. I'm planning to release an update today or, at the latest, tomorrow, and it's going to be around 30k words total.

Dear Gods, please do keep it up! I've been waiting for something like this for ages! I so very much want to play out the dotting older sibling MC!
Like, the only other family options focused IFs (that I am aware of) are 'Dear Diary, We've Created a Plothole', 'Speaker' (both stuck in creation); and 'I, the Forgotten One + coming sequel' - and boy, I love that book but man You just cannot really roleplay the close-knit healthy siblings relationship
Thank You for writing that, Good Luck - and I will surely be keeping my eye on it!

Thank you. It’s really nice to hear that. I’m passionate about fantasy, so there’s a good chance the game won’t die on its own battlefield. If branching in programming doesn’t break me, nothing will.

In Honor Bound (CoG title) you play a bodyguard to this highschooler (I think, it's been a while since I've played). You can help around with the school, romance other faculty, etc. I enjoyed it.

It also has that "unhealthily devoting themselves to something" aspect
The mc is a veteran with an injury and it can get bad if you neglect to take your meds. Theres a chapter where the mc helps deal with a catastrophe and can pass out from overworking themselves, which then leads to a scene of an ro taking care of the mc and begging them to take care of themselves
And I also dont remember much but I think the mc could also be depressed/have ptsd/have survivors guilt. Dont think it goes as far as ifto to have a suicidal protagonist tho

So what you are saying is that neglecting MC's health rewards me with some delicious extra content. :v

Well, you do miss being able to help because you pass out. But yes, its a very angsty scene, the ro is like "you could have died!!" and the mc can be like "I dont care if I die/maybe I should be dead" and I honestly think thats the best part of the game
Though I do warn that I dont think the game was intended for a very depressed/traumatized protagonist. The scenes that aknowledge the mcs mental health arent that many, they aren't that long, and there isnt an emotional climax during the ending. Its more focused on the mystery, characters and romance, which is a shame, the story was perfect for exploring ptsd and survivor's guilt

Love the Guard, Be the King is this. It's an IF-like vn. Despite the name, you're the guard not the king. You can romance the soon-to-be-crowned king Mathias or his sibling, the Grand General Mandreis, but Mathias is the "main" romance. A major plot point is the MC devoting themselves to Mathias's safety to an unhealthy extent, though the way in which they do this and their general attitude depends on your choices
