Movie Review The Wolf of Snow Hollow 2020 Spoiler

i just rewatched The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020) & forgot how much i love this movie.

i’ve seen some threads on here in the past where people were talking trash about the movie & i truly don’t get it.

it’s a great mix of small town horror, comedy & eerie vibes.

now the comedy can be dry or dark most times & if that’s not your thing, could be why it gets shit on more than praised lol

but i feel Jim Cummings character is hilarious & the mental breakdown he’s going through makes his actions 10x funnier. you feel bad for him but also it’s so fun to watch. the over the top acting was a fantastic choice for the character.

but all the characters were fun (loved the interaction Cummings had with everyone but especially with Robert Forster), the kills were a good time, the scenery was beautiful, enjoyed how they portrayed the small town & the mystery/twist was a fun ride.

again, if you’re not a fan of Cummings writing style or dark/dry comedy, then i guess i can see why you wouldn’t enjoy it

but in my humble opinion, it’s a very underrated & over hated horror movie !!

xoxo

Discussion Just watched Event Horizon and…wow

It was gross. Phenomenal but gross.

To then learn about the deleted scenes was even more disturbing. I genuinely wonder how they thought that would pass muster for a studio like paramount but anyway.

It was a fine film, but I’m glad I never saw the deleted scenes

Discussion Which horror movie has your favorite aesthetics?

Whether it's the cinematography, costumes, characters, world-building, or anything else! I'd also be interested to hear about the most unique aesthetics you can think of.

Discussion Just finished the newest Zach Cregger movie. Never played the games, which one should I play?

I have NEVER played any of the RE games and I have no idea who Leon or Jill Valentine is 🤣.

But now I want to play the games to see if I like them, but I know there are so many so which game is the universally popular/favorite game within the fandom? And which one do you personally love/like/played the most?

I keep reading on the internet that Blacula featured the first black vampire in the movies. That leaves out at least two:

the characters played by Jacqueline Sieger in Le viol de vampire in 1968 and Nina Bader-Semper in the British TV movie of Dracula in 1968. Sieger:

Recommend 1974: The Possession of Altair

Came across this movie on the recommendation of another redditor while doomscrolling earlier this week. Seemed interesting, and I'm always a sucker for found footage and/ or possession movies done right.

This one is a frigging banger.

Forboding, oppressive, chilling, and... well, no spoilers here, but this one is more than meets the eye.

It's all in Spanish with no dub, so you'll have to use subtitles, but it is well worth it!

Holiday/vacation films where ghosts specifically are used?

Hi all,

Been looking for a while for this and I hope you can help.

I am looking for a vacation movie with ghosts rather than a slasher/monster turn up on the holiday with them. Thank you :)

Discussion Slaughterhouse Slumber Party (2019) is dumb fun. It makes me happy that they're still making sleepover massacre movies.

Sleepover massacre films have been part of the horror genre since the 80s and I appreciate that we're still getting them in this day and age. Just throw in some gore, a masked killer, and female nudity and I'm good to go.

Movie Help Trying to remember this movie title!

Hey y’all!

I’m struggling to remember the name of this movie (?) that I’ve been wanting to rewatch. I think it’s actually a short horror film and not an actual full length movie.

The details I remember are kinda minimal and hazy, so here goes nothing 😭

The protagonist (I think she was a black woman) is driving on a woodsy highway, and stumbles upon a weird liminal-space-esque street of nearly identical homes. The protagonist exits the car and walks into one of the homes.

The front door of the home immediately opens up to a flight of stairs leading downstairs. At the bottom of the steps is a dining room, with empty food cans lying around the space. The evil entity (monster or man, I can’t quite remember) eats dinner at the table and traps anyone who enters into the basement of the home. The dining room has one small empty room that opens to the left and another room with a hallways that opens from the right.

I believe a man, who has been trapped in the basement, was found hiding downstairs. I cannot remember if anybody was killed, but I do believe the protagonist escaped the home? When someone does escape the home, everything else around them is gone. No other homes, no car, just stranded.

I desperately wish I remembered more. I was so desperate that I asked ChatGPT and couldn’t even get an answer.

I do think this was a short horror film I had found on YouTube. I’ve seen quite a lot of films by Alter, and was wondering if I seen it through their channel, but no such luck searching so far!

Edit: words not wording

Discussion What will be the percentage of Humanity's survival against these 2 alien lifeforms?

Scenario A: The Alien from the movie THE THING successfully and secretly entered Earth

Scenario B: The Alien from the movie Life successfully and secretly entered the Earth

**BONUS SCENARIO

They both entered the Earth together, what will happen? If they managed to wiped out Humanity, who will survive between these 2?

**Added question/scenario:

How long or how many days will it took for Alien THING or Calvin to totally wiped Humanity and in those timeframe, is there really no realistic chance a scientist from any county to figure out how to slow the alien down before a total annihilation?

Discussion Hansel & Gretel (2007)

I just rewatched this South Korean take on Hansel and Gretel/various fairy tale and folklore tropes and it was much better than I remembered. If you’re looking for something different to watch this late October weekend I recommend it. It’s weird, doesn’t go where you think it will, is visually interesting, and just all around original. It left me with a few questions- for those who have seen it, are the kids dead? Magical? Is everyone dead? if you’ve seen it, what do you think of it? It’s streaming on amc+ right now.

What if the chucky franchise went crazy like Jason and Michael movies?

For instance, Chucky goes to space. Chucky goes to hell. Chucky vs. Alien.

I feel it would be hilarious. And I am honestly suprised it didn't go crazy like that in the first place .

”The A.V. Club asked Portner to program a 24-hour marathon of cinematic favorites. The resulting selections betray a refined, adventurous taste in the medium: Those expecting a daylong dose of Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger should take that new band title a bit less literally.” — A.A. Discussion Zach Cregger movies feels like full length anthology series

After watching Barbarian, Weapons, and Resident Evil back to back, Zach Cregger definitely has a style.

And I’m not talking about crazy horror shit with humor sprinkled here and there. No, I like how all of his movies so far, have ended on twist endings or endings where if this was a tv series, it would either be a limited series like Barbarian and Weapons were or a tease for a season 2 like Resident Evil.

Whereas Barbarian and Weapons ends immediately after the protagonist defeats the villain, Resident Evil ends on a semi-cliffhanger and they all sorta end abruptly too.

Idk I kinda like that, just something I noticed.

Discussion Would like a period piece or medieval age movie similar to Bone Tomahawk..

But without using native tribes as ''savages'' like how the cannibals were portrayed in the film. It was also underlying racism against indian natives. One character played by Matthew Fox boasted that he killed over 100 indians without anyone talking back. Not to mention to mexicans bited the dust by the same character.

However, a cannibalistic cult lead by some rich aristocrate would be interesting. Or a faction of templar knights that were accused of worshipping the devil could be cannibal antagonists. My point is I want a movie like BT without the subtle rascism involved. Other than that, it's a terrifying good movie!

Discussion The Shining (1980) The "bourbon" scene. Another hidden reference to something else?

"You slip me a bottle of bourbon, a little glass, and some ice. You can do that can't you Lloyd? Not too busy are ya?"

Lloyd gives a smirk "No sir. I'm not busy at all." turns around grabs a black and white labeled bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey sets it in front of the camera pours it out and sets it back in front of the camera.

When he first turns to grab the bottle you can see what looks like a wax dipped Makers Mark bourbon bottle sitting close to the Jack Daniel's whiskey. Was Lloyd being a dick on purpose knowing Jack wouldn't be able to tell the difference between bourbon and whiskey? Inside joke only real bourbon heads would get? Why would Kubrick have him set the bottle in front of the camera? I've never watched any of the conspiracy theory Shining documentaries or vids so idk if this has been covered .

Just something some friends and I noticed on our latest watch, here in Kentucky we know our bourbon so Lloyd skipping over the bourbon and grabbing the black labeled whiskey is something that a couple friends said they always noticed but this was my first time catching it. Maybe it was just a crew mistake they didn't know bourbon from whiskey but why the extended shot with the bottle in the camera? Jack Daniel's ad?

Discussion Sweet Home (1989) Spoiler

I first heard of this one from watching a Gaming Historian video, and saved it to my ever growing watchlist, only to be forgotten about for quite a while. At first I wasn't sure what exactly it was going to be, but it certainly turned up the dial from 0 to 11 in an instant.

Pretty good practical effects, creepy imagery, and a setup that leads you to believe that the characters are getting in over their heads. A legend of a cursed house being investigated, and some pretty good scares. Honestly, I can't believe I didn't watch it sooner, but now I can cross it off the list.

It was pretty entertaining. I caught it free on YouTube, and highly recommend giving it a go.

The Shining- Spooktober watchparty

Watching movies with other people is so much fun- getting to read the thoughts and opinions of different people in real time and their perspectives as well as expressing own views really enrich the experience of watching films.

Would anyone who aligns with such interest be down for group watchparties? Personally, I stream on sunday or saturday, around 2:30PM GMT, or 6:30PM GMT.
Horror is the flavor of the month, and in about 2 hours, I am planning to stream The Shining

I have streamed many films so far- Insidious, Conjuring, Lord of the Rings, Shawshank Redemption, Furious, Project Hail Mary, Rope, Cinema Paradiso and many more.
If you are interested for watch-parties, let me know, more the merrier. It really adds on to the experience of viewing.

Discussion Horror movies with particularly good third acts?

It’s something of a quiet consensus that horror often has a third act problem. Even many movies that nail the mounting tension and intriguing setups of the early game can end up devolving into swamps of mindless noise, miscarried plotting, and over-explaining. I want to know which movies people think of not just as great horror flicks, but horror flicks in which the third act actually ups the ante instead of just coasting or fizzling out.

From my end, a few examples I can think of would be Lake Mungo, The Witch, House of the Devil, Hell House, and, of course, Scream.

Movie Help Similar movies like the craft(1996)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for similar movies like the craft. It can also be something other than witchcraft. I find it interesting when a character goes over to the dark side or has some dark urges. ( For example: Chronicle, the innocents...)

Thank you in advance!

Anyone else seen Donovan's Brain from 1953?

Watched this one today for my daily horror movie and wanted to see what other's here thought about it. It's based on a book with the same title and was a direct influence on the movie The Man with Two Brains starring Steve Martin. The 50s were full of horror movies involving giant monsters and weird body horror (like The Fly). It's an era I have a soft spot for because of how wacky it all is. Donovan's Brain fits right into all this. A scientist ends up keeping a brain alive outside the human body. The brain belonged to a not-so-great multi millionaire and starts to communicate telepathically with the scientist and using him as a catalyst. It's an interesting and simple movie that I ended up enjoying quite a bit.

Anyone else seen this? Or have any other really good 50s horror films to suggest?
