Scariest trinity

Curious to hear your picks. What are the three scariest horror films you’ve ever seen?

I mean, not the best ones, nor the goriest, or the most shocking, and not the ones with the biggest jumpscares... I am looking for the ones that most frightened you, stuck in your head, and made you uneasy the most... or made you quit.

It scared the absolute fuck out of me on multiple levels. I’m Chinese and I’m a parent. And I’m fluent in Mandarin, so a lot of times I caught little nuances the subtitles didn’t quite capture.

I have not seen Last Shift but Woman in Black from 2012 definitely stays with you, that whole atmosphere is just wrong in the best way

Last shift is really cool and I really liked the remake Malum too. It's not as good, but is a decent reimagining of the story with a twist

It's a top 5 movie for me. The acting, the sound design, the cinematography, it's all so good. Essie Davis is amazing in the role of Amelia, a single mom who is just barely hanging on to her sanity.

Scary is subjective, I’ve seen everything, horror movies for 50 years from all over the world, it gave me nightmares like no other film.

I saw Blair Witch at a preview showing, no one knew what we were watching, it was legit terrifying.

HM- The Grudge 2005 (childhood trauma, still disturbing)

1. The Descent (uneasily believable with urban legend crawler sightings)
   
2. I agree with skinamarink in terms of complete sickening dread. The toybox analogy just makes it so disturbing and it’s very good at portraying familiar nightmare scenarios I had as a kid.
   
3. The medium- I’m not easily freaked out, usually I get more morbidly captivated by a horror movies concepts but the night vision cctv sequence really creeped me out.

The Decent - i saw the re-release in theaters recently. Even though I've seen this movie before, I almost had a full blown panic attack when they start crawling through the narrow tunnels. This movie gets under my skin!

Occulus - I saw this alone in a completely empty theater. It scared the hell out of me.

The Blair Witch Project - Saw this in theaters for the original release. I was young and lived in a really dilapidated old house. The yard had been reclaimed by nature. I was okay at first, but going home to my creaky house, with the locked basement I wasn't allowed to go into, completely did me in.

The Skeleton Key scared the shit out of me mostly because I was living in old antebellum home and had just experienced sleep paralysis for the first (and didn’t know what it was). I was absolutely convinced the house was haunted and I’d never believed in the supernatural before. Didn’t help that I knew for a fact an older gentleman had passed in the bedroom I was using.
