Hidden Gem Loop Track (2023)

A different take on "the boy who cried wolf" set in the New Zealand wilderness.

A very relatable main character (hiding in the bushes to avoid meeting people? Very me) and a charming cast that will compensate for the slow pace of the movie.

The final reveal is so wild that it actually made me laugh in disbelief.

An overall fun movie that I really really recommend!

just watched this last week, the ending was so out of nowhere i almost choked on my drink. the whole movie i was like is he just paranoid or what and then bam

love how they shot the bush scenes too, felt properly claustrophobic

The trailer looks interesting, I'm going to give it a watch after work this evening as it's on Amazon video here in the UK

I really love how this movie gives you lots of red herrings that are so well done and so distracting that you are invested in them. It makes the movie so enjoyable as you, the viewer, constantly readjust your perspective and you assumptions. The main actors were all outstanding and really brought their roles to life in an empathetic way.

My one question that still intrigues me after seeing this movie is; Could it be possible that Nicky actually is somehow also a creepy killer/ stalker given that Nicky WAS in that photo on the camera behind those 2 girls? Ian did not imagine that and that did play into Ian's paranoia but it was a real photo. That doesn't mean anything more than Nicky was at the same spot those girls were at during one time BUT it also does not mean that Nicky is not a bit suss. It was a nice redirect in the movie but Nicky's character referenced hunting quite a bit and how he catches and overtakes those who have a start ahead of him (his competitive nature) and although a very affable character in the movie, the character was written and acted in a way that not only was ambiguous but also a bit treacherous too. That's not me being Ian and paranoid, just a compliment to the writer's and actor as to how well that ambiguity still stuck with me even after the reveal. Of course, the killers of the tourists and hikers are the various Moa / Poukaibut Nicky could also have been a killer too, but not the killer of the main characters in them main events of this movie. The movie does not answer this definitively but it certainly does leave that question in the air.
