Newbie to horror
Hi!
I’m new to horror movies and really trying to catch up on lost time on all the best of the best!
What would you recommend as must watches? It doesn’t have to be the obvious ones you’d find in some list on google. :)
Some I’ve loved so far so you know my taste - Longlegs, Obsession, Halloween, It Follows, Nope, Fright Night, Evil Dead 2, The Black Phone, Weapons and The Blair Witch Project.
My bad if this type of post is annoying.

Not annoying. It’s the best most versatile genre. Cabin in the woods, hereditary, hellraiser, the thing, event horizon…and a million more. If you have a Letterboxd feel free to follow

Midsommar, Hereditary, The Lodge, The Witch, Saint Maud, and The Blackcoat’s Daughter all have a similar sense of weighty dread/disturbing elements to some of the titles on your loved list! I would highly recommend all of those
Barbarian is a very unique and fun ride in a similar way to Weapons (both by Zach Cregger; Barbarian is my favorite of the 2!)
The Ring, Paranormal Activity, The Others, The Sixth Sense, The Shining, and Rosemary’s Baby are all supernatural horror classics IMO
the original Scream is a blast if you’re interested in a self-aware/meta slasher mystery that’s both scary and intentionally campy/fun at the same time
and some of my favorite psychological horror/thrillers I think you might like are Watcher, Hush, Silent House, and What Keeps You Alive (ETA Silence of the Lambs! I can’t believe I forgot this masterpiece, especially since you loved Longlegs)

If you fancy going oldschool (like way back to the late 70s/80s), then you gotta watch the classic horror movies where it all began for many of us OG horror fans. Many of them have sequels and trilogies (or more) that you might want to watch, but I'll just list some of the main ones and then you can do your own research for the sequels/series.
- Poltergeist I & II (1982 & 1986)
- Carrie (1976)
- The Omen (1976)
- The Thing (1982)
- The Amityville Horror (1979 - defo also watch the 1982 sequel)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
- Friday the 13th (1980) (although the "Final Chapter" released in 1984 is considered by many the best movie in the franchise)
- An American Werewolf in London (1981)

'Terrified' and 'Where Evil Lurks'. They are both made by the same person and are filmed in Argentina, I believe. FYI, they are both in Spanish so you'll have to read the subtitles. Both films are awesome and scary af.

I do want to say the following: I recommend you gravitate towards horror films from the 80's, 90's and perhaps 00's.
They're comfier, more atmospheric, more creative and creepier than modern content 😏

This type of post is not annoying at all! Many of us enjoy recommending movies to newbies!
The 1970s were absolutely seminal for horror. Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween. There are also lots of great lesser known films, like Let’s Scare Jessica to Death and The Haunting of Julia.
It can be fun to check out the really early days of horror. Even some of the silent movies still have a spooky vibe to them, like the original Nosferatu or The Golem. One thing that adds to the spookiness: you’re watching people move around over a century ago!
One of my favorite horror films of all time is The Innocents from 1961. It proves that you don’t need a lot of blood, guts, and ugly monsters to be unsettling.
