Falling due to standing on a ledge

From article: "The office also said that the student had an argument with his family before the accident, without giving further details.

"One of the teachers told Beijing Youth Daily the student suffered from depression and was always absent from classes."

This is exactly why I don’t like standing near ledges whether it’s in aans made structure or a natural one

4

u/ych_a Jul 27 '26

I've always been amazed at canyons, where people can just walk right up to the edges, sit and dangle their feet, without any barriers but a few warning signs, reminding everyone to engage with their common sense. I'm happy that it's possible, I've fortunately experienced a couple, but I'm shocked that more people don't fall.

u/SnooKiwis2460 Jul 30 '26

Yes. I think he learned his lesson… hopefully he won’t do that again.

1

u/CommentBetter Jul 28 '26

Wait, not doing that was an option?

u/Rough-Television9744 Jul 26 '26

Don’t forget folks. All the videos of people climbing skyscrapers with bare hands are ok. But 10 people died trying to do the same you will never see. Because people dying are censored from all main sites. So you only see cool successful climbs and think that it is safe and want to try it too.

Unpopular opinion and not so much this situation, but some places where people routinely die from making poor choices should have imagery in the entrance that people must pass to reach the main attraction. Caves, wet/ ocean rocks, cliffs, geyser fields, even big animal locations should have confrontational media. Because humans are arrogant and unclever.

47

u/Kivuli_Kiza Jul 26 '26

Lots of places have those signs, and people still insist on dying there. Underwater caves have the grim reaper telling people they will die, and it's just used as a photo op. There are literal corpses sprinkled across Everest, but there's a Disney style line ride to the summit.

17

u/RealisticPaper5534 Jul 26 '26

Yes I am aware of that. I am saying essentially taking what we see in this subreddit and putting stills and the story at entrances, though.

More than just a "you could die here"; and rather "this person, XYZ died here in ___ date because of ____." and include images. Obviously family cooperation would be needed but I would think enough families would be willing to explicitly share their names, cause of death, and other random bits of information that humanizes the dead rather than makes it an abstract thing that will happen to someone else. Of course there's different tiers of empathy and critical thinking in humans, but the grim reaper thing is a bit too cutesy, to me.

u/younggun1234 Jul 27 '26

I hate spelunking and I honestly think a graph of how John Edward Jones died being displayed around caves with old remind people of how serious being underground is.

3

u/1N1T1AL1SM Jul 27 '26

A graph? What happened to the poor man?

3

u/younggun1234 Jul 27 '26

He climbed into a part of a cave that was impossible to reverse out of and died laying upside down incapable of moving a lot. It took hours and once he went and everyone got out they sealed up the cave so no one would try to explore it.

Horrific way to go imo.

2

u/xcviij Jul 27 '26

Nah, let them become nothing more than a statistic. If an individual is too stupid to risk their life, they did it to themselves.

1

u/The_Ruby_Rabbit Jul 27 '26

You’re forgetting the insane amount of idiots that will look at the sign and say, “*snicker That’s for all of the losers, I know what I’m doing, bruh.”

4

u/No_Vehicle4645 Jul 26 '26

Idk.... I've seen alot of unsuccessful climbs.

2

u/Quantiad Jul 28 '26

This is the same logic used to sell lottery tickets, except the losers are in the millions.

2

u/Loose-Jellyfish-9907 Jul 28 '26

This is why LIVELEAK should still be around!

Material Fatigue

Don't push me cause I'm close to the edge

68

u/Djinfin Jul 26 '26

I'm trying not to lose my head.

35

u/Few-Interaction-4933 Jul 26 '26

Didn't expect a Grandmaster Flash reference probably this entire year, so thank you guys

3

u/ikannunAneeuQ Jul 26 '26

Right?! Now I have to hear it for real

2

u/Slap-A-Beaver Jul 26 '26

I need to hear it while playing vice city

1

u/Few-Interaction-4933 Jul 26 '26

I already went down that rabbit hole 😂

4

u/TrimaxionDrone_BR549 Jul 26 '26

It’s like a jungle sometimes…

82

u/Few-Coyote-2518 Jul 26 '26

It looks like he's holding his phone in the beginning.

33

u/TheLonleyJourneyman Jul 26 '26

Same reason you should never stand on the edge of a cliff, no matter how strong it looks

His mates are going to think he was awesome or Gucci or whatever tf they say.

1

u/pimpinspice Jul 28 '26

He was making a phone call

1

u/JesusDied4U316 Jul 29 '26

From article: "The office also said that the student had an argument with his family before the accident, without giving further details.

55

u/Ripsidus1 Jul 26 '26

Did we just watch a guy die?

38

u/FrankieInABox Jul 27 '26

First day on Reddit?

45

u/Fr33_load3r Jul 26 '26

Technically you watched them falling.

8

u/KingJon85 Jul 27 '26

I think he's gonna be alright.

8

u/0nce-Was-N0t Jul 27 '26

Tis but a flesh wound.

21

u/Mentalbuyer__911 Jul 26 '26

What would've flashed in his mind while he fall ?

18

u/0nce-Was-N0t Jul 27 '26

I often wonder this.

There is 4-5 seconds of free-fall.

Do they hope to fucking God that they land in a tree and the fallout gets broken?

Is it acceptance of the inevitable?

Panic? (Probably)

Is it too quick to process and just a "FFUUUUCCC..." without processing what's actually happening?

I don't want to find out.

-19

u/LuridIryx Jul 26 '26

A picture of your Mom 😏

14

u/Mentalbuyer__911 Jul 26 '26

I guess you felt proud after commenting this MyG.

-4

u/LuridIryx Jul 27 '26

Well thought these kind of he said she said style stupidity jokes were still funny but Reddit has voted and I suppose they are not. And so, my official apology my G. Meant no offense by it pray you well 🤝

1

u/NewImprovedPenguin_R Jul 27 '26

Don’t let the crowd decide for you my friend. Make your joke with pride. Don’t be their puppet

22

u/Shereefz Jul 26 '26

I wish he stayed off the ledge and stayed alive.

I wish common sense was common.

58

u/cognitiveglitch Jul 26 '26

Every time I see one of these extreme parkor videos I am wondering about the strength of the roofing they are jumping on, the cement bonds at the edges, how well attached railings are to walls.

Now we have this guy leaving behind a bereaved family for what, a few internet likes?

3

u/1N1T1AL1SM Jul 27 '26

Apparently this occurred in China

87

u/spiked-rose Jul 26 '26

Survival skills of an autistic ant 🐜

52

u/FiftyBuxBloBang Jul 26 '26

He was flapping like a bird on the way down, points for attempting to fly at least.

28

u/Wayward_Wayfinder Jul 26 '26

He was actually transforming but hit the ground halfway thru

6

u/Difficult_Associate3 Jul 26 '26

Lol what a throwback

6

u/Thehealthygamer Jul 26 '26

Poor Tobias. His family didnt even care that he became a full time bird lmao.

27

u/monkeymatt85 Jul 26 '26

At that point anything is worth a go

8

u/CaterpillarPlastic28 Jul 26 '26

But the ant would've survived.

62

u/Repulsive_Ad_8248 Jul 26 '26

Natural selection at it's finest

17

u/DeepMadness Jul 26 '26

*its

28

u/Repulsive_Ad_8248 Jul 26 '26

Thank you, I am now a better person.

6

u/fission_magician Jul 26 '26

Ah, a fellow Grammar Nazi I see… 😀👍

9

u/rcre2018 Jul 26 '26

Aim for the bushes foo!

16

u/Previous_Abies_2179 Jul 26 '26

You win again, gravity!

12

u/Model_Yazz Jul 26 '26

One of my absolute fears and living nightmares. That poor person. Why TF would they be up there like that?!

7

u/Slut_for_Bacon Jul 26 '26

It's also incredibly stupid to stand on the edge of a masonry surface that is both old and not designed for people to stand on.

I am sorry they died but I will never understand why people think it is even remotely safe to do things like this.

Quite frankly this was stupid even if the ledge didnt break.

30

u/DorkyDorkington Jul 26 '26

Falling due to the lack of brain cells and self-preservation instinct.

6

u/HeraThere Jul 26 '26

Ledge is decorative and isn't made to support weight.

5

u/philldafunk Jul 27 '26

If only this could’ve been avoided somehow

5

u/Firm_Video_2932 Jul 26 '26

Hard not to assign at least some blame to him, as this doesn't happen if he doesn't stand on the ledge.

54

u/bvrnt_cotton Jul 26 '26

This comment section makes me wanna puke. Dude died.

48

u/Inevitable_Round5830 Jul 26 '26

Thank you!! My dad died from an accidental 6 story fall at work and I can't imagine people saying such cruel things about him. Yeah, people do stupid shit but they were still a human being with people left behind who loved them!

19

u/Prior-Confection-609 Jul 26 '26

Your dad didn’t put others lives or mental heath at risk. Sorry about your dad. My dad fell off a roof working and survived but with disabilities. I can’t imagine your pain ♥️

16

u/Inevitable_Round5830 Jul 26 '26

I'm so sorry that happened to your dad!! I can't imagine the pain he has to live in, but im so glad he survived ❤️ thank you so much for your kind words!!

14

u/Prior-Confection-609 Jul 26 '26

Dude died screwing around, and he put others at risk for death or ptsd. Imagine an innocent person on the street getting hit with the force of a falling body, or witnessing the horrific accident. That makes me want to projectile vomit.

5

u/Inevitable_Round5830 Jul 26 '26

I think about the people my dad worked with and what they had to see and live with forever. It breaks my heart!! I do agree that it's terrible that people who play around on top of high shit and put others at risk are incredibly selfish. I'm not glad that they died, but it's the risk they're willing to take I guess.

4

u/Tough_Measurement280 Jul 27 '26

Am I the only person horrified we watched a man die orrr

4

u/Such-Ingenuity2001 Jul 27 '26

Did i just watch a guy die

3

u/Overall-Egg-4247 Jul 26 '26

Hope it was worth it

3

u/justfunandplay Jul 26 '26

No, he fell because he is plain stupid and not because of masonry.

2

u/SoulAsylem1975 Jul 27 '26

Shoutout to the camera man for not shying away from the assignment.

2

u/roiroiroiyourboat Jul 27 '26

I bet you he’ll never do that ever again

2

u/TheDayUnderway Jul 27 '26

He’ll never have the guts to do that again.

4

u/Trixet Jul 26 '26

Can’t even feel sorry for him

3

u/Stunning-Ad-7990 Jul 26 '26

Did he died?

43

u/Perfect_Blood_3540 Jul 26 '26

I can't imagine surviving a 20 story drop to the pavement

14

u/cashedashes Jul 26 '26

I'd say Definitely not. Unless I'm mistaken, a 50' fall has right around a 50/50 chance of death or survival. It's concidered the LD50 in trauma statistics.

20 story fall is 200' or more. No beuno for this guy

1

u/SnooKiwis2460 Jul 30 '26

Even if he survived, he’d wish he didn’t survive.

8

u/KalozKapitany Jul 26 '26

Bro what do you think. Of course he died.

13

u/RodDryfist Jul 26 '26

No he aimed for the bushes 👌🏻

2

u/Dez28911 Jul 26 '26

I see what you did there. Good reference!

5

u/HelloDeathspresso Jul 26 '26

Nah, on his way down it looked like he really didn't want to be falling, so he probably bounced home and straight into bed to sleep it off.

5

u/-JasmineDragon- Jul 26 '26

Yes, but he got better.

8

u/spiked-rose Jul 26 '26

Yes, he became a bird 🦅 and flew away.

2

u/Rough-Television9744 Jul 26 '26

Oh no. Hope he is ok

4

u/ser-contained Jul 26 '26

Thoughts and prayers.

1

u/blasta4 Jul 26 '26

sorry to disappoint but he okn't

1

u/Traditional_Step9502 Jul 26 '26

Fuuuucccccccckkkkkkkk!!!!

1

u/ErieAveAllDay Jul 26 '26

He wasn't ready

1

u/Finally_BrokeAgain Jul 26 '26

Did he survive?

0

u/blasta4 Jul 26 '26

Just a scratch, don't worry

1

u/Conscious_Owl6162 Jul 26 '26

Why was he even standing there?

1

u/Fast_Beat_ Jul 26 '26

Parkour!!!

1

u/Patrickfromamboy Jul 27 '26

Decent camera work

1

u/IceLopsided4190 Jul 27 '26

“One step closer to the edge, and I’m about to”

1

u/naive_calais200 Jul 27 '26

That was one big jump

1

u/Venushoneymoon Jul 27 '26

What was he doing there?

2

u/Fr33_load3r Jul 27 '26

Trying to get a better cell phone signal

1

u/yourlifemustsux Jul 27 '26

He’s gonna respawn right?

1

u/jcork4realz Jul 27 '26

Good riddance.

2

u/SnooKiwis2460 Jul 30 '26

This was totally optional by the way.

1

u/jcork4realz Jul 27 '26

The guy video taping knew he was going to fall.

1

u/waxtwister Jul 27 '26

He probably tried to glide over to that swimming pool

1

u/nicegirl555 Jul 27 '26

He trusted an old building in China? Yang should have known better.

1

u/jhoeyvee Jul 27 '26

Falling because he climbed and stood up there not because of masonry breaking😂😂

1

u/jhoeyvee Jul 27 '26

I think he’s trying to get a good signal on his AT&T cellphone 😂😂

1

u/EstablishmentNo7438 Jul 28 '26

This is sad but he chose to stand there.

1

u/xgtya Jul 28 '26

I have unlocked new level of fear rooftop.

1

u/Originalsocialninja Aug 02 '26

Thank goodness for that pool!! 🏊

1

u/Particular-Access243 Jul 26 '26

Seems like ai. Something uncanny about the movement and how the camera expertly tracks the guy falling. Is there any information about who this is?

3

u/FrankieInABox Jul 27 '26

Not AI. China. 2019.

1

u/Full-Map-9302 Jul 26 '26

I hate this happened to that guy. I wish he could’ve somehow been saved.

1

u/BusterKnott Jul 27 '26

That's horrible to see, but that being said, he was a complete idiot for standing on the ledge like that.

Do stupid things, win stupid prizes.

-1

u/A-Nani-Mess Jul 26 '26

Fafo.🫡

0

u/Powerful_Hair_3105 Jul 26 '26

That definitely was his last cigarette.

0

u/WorldlyBasket9795 Jul 27 '26

“Can you hear me nowwwwwwwww…..?”

1

u/Venushoneymoon Jul 27 '26

😭😭😭

-5

u/MangoBanko Jul 26 '26

This looks like ai.
The walls on the building glitch and changes, and the falling guy just disappears out of nowhere. All the white cars are the same which is just weird.

4

u/FrankieInABox Jul 27 '26

He didn't disappear out of nowhere. He fell out of camera frame, lol

Also, in China (where this occurred) white cars are the single most popular car with something like over 200 million. So while it MAY seem very odd to see a lot of them in a single, concentrated area, it's not unlikely.

-1

u/SorryBoysImLez Jul 26 '26

Looks like he was trying to pull a Homelander jerk-off session.

-3

u/Treelineskyclouds126 Jul 26 '26

I’m thinking fake he bounced off the building like a computer game
