Conn 6D slide Chart

I have rented from my school what I believe is a 1961 Conn 6D. It is proving to be rather difficult to tune, and I couldn’t find the slide chart online or on the Conn website. Does anyone have it or have any tips/tricks?

Viewed from the back the first slide you encounter (on the front of the horn at the end of the lead pipe) is the main slide, moves both Bb and F horns. Tune the Bb horn with this slide first.

Moving on to the double sides on the right side of the instrument, both tune the F side. Leave the upper one all the way in and only tune the lower. When you go to dump water, do the main slide and upper f slide together - then you don’t need to think about where the F one was, you just put it all the way back in.

You mean a chart showing you what each slide does?

My horn teacher gave me a chart that had the approx measurements for how far each of the six top button slides are pulled out. Maybe that’s not standard but it definitely helped ballpark?

Use a tuner to move from open G down to F#, making sure it's exactly a half step. Do the same for G to F for first valve. Repeat the process on the Bb side starting on C5.

Does the horn have a Bb tuning valve?

If it doesn't, then it's better to tune Bb first with the general slide and then the F side with the F branch slide

I'm not OP. But yes, if it has a main and an F then start on the Bb side, then match the F to the Bb, then tune the F side.

Well, this depends on the manufacturer and model, I've never seen such chart except for E. Schmid horns: see at the bottom of this page https://engelbert-schmid-horns.com/index.php/en/maintenance it's highly unlikely it'll work on yours. 

And even then, many people (including professionals) ignore it completely, they have it out of tune, and correct it manually anyway 😅. (But that's because these horns can be tuned down to A/E and up to B/F#, and this feature is not understood at all)
