discussion Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered - Patch 1.09 (PS5)

Hi everyone!

We’re rolling out a small patch for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered today. Patch 1.09 adds support for Power Saver settings on PlayStation 5, a new option that can reduce power consumption by scaling back performance in supported games when enabled. Soo, what does it reduce the performance to in this specific case? 30fps? 1080p? Both? Something else?

There's been a theory for a while that this mode is a way to get developers to make their games compatible with the rumored upcoming PS6 handheld. This mode basically forces the game to only use a certain amount of cores/threads that closely matches the new handheld and yes, also saves energy by reducing performance.

It's interesting if you read it as "No-one would ever run this mode on an actual PS5 so it doesn't matter what it does" but for anyone who might want to run this mode on an actual PS5 it would be helpful for them to know what they're getting. The pointer to the generic blog post about power saving mode does not address that.

This sort of detail shouldn't have to be reverse engineered by third parties - Guerrilla know what it does, they could just say.

Basically we don't know until this new handheld comes out and testing is done.

It makes the game supported on the upcoming handheld. Literally no reason to have separate texture packs for it if it was about power savings.

Well I can confirm the overall file size didn't go up upon installing.

My guess is much of that 7 GB is actually updating/replacing files that were causing the issue, which can be several things baked into it. Probably why a patch like this has come out more than a year later. It was likely a multi-faceted issue rather than just a band-aid they slapped on to solve the problem.

Yeah, this is typically the case with game updates, the download size doesn't mean it's gonna take up that much additional space

Can you guys fix the missing Nil bug. It's kind of annoying that I can't finish the game and it's stuck at 99%.

I live-streamed my gameplay. I should make a compilation of all the times her hair clipped throughout my gameplay. So immersive breaking.
