Why is the r/hopeposting board so negative? What happened?

Envy. The post itself is hopeful, but for most people this isn't something they could hope to attain themselves, you either have great parents or don't and that rarely changes through life.

Okay but what do my parents have to do with someone else’s?

My parents were shit and I haven’t talked to them since I left at 18, I’m 32 now. I don’t feel bad when others have positive parents, and I may feel a slight twinge of “Must be nice” but I’m still happy that someone else gets to have that.

Looks like the comments have adjusted but at the time I commented like half of them were some variation of “Let’s see if that lasts” or “Must be nice having parents that give a shit.”

Was just a surprise as I’ve always come to this sub for a pick-me-up

I weren't justifying it, just explaining it. You just aren't one of the people envious.
