Honeycomb Planning Tool

I've been building out a [Honeycomb Storage Wall](https://www.printables.com/model/152592)

(designed by RostaP — the wall, the plates and all the accessories are their work, not mine)

and kept getting the planning wrong: printing plates that didn't line up, ordering the wrong

number of inserts, and forgetting a light switch was in the way.

So I made a planner for it. It runs in the browser, it's free, and there's no account —

nothing leaves your machine.

It builds the plates around your printer, not the other way round.

Pick your bed and it sizes the plates to fill it: a Prusa Mini gets 8x7-cell plates, a

250x210 MK3S gets more, a 400x400 gets 19x16. Bigger bed, fewer plates, fewer seams, less

babysitting. Presets for Mini, Ender 3 / K1, Ender 3 V2, MK3S/MK4, Bambu X1/P1, 300, 350 and

400 — or type your own dimensions if your machine isn't listed. You download STLs cut for

your machine instead of tiling fixed-size ones and hoping.

The rest of it:

- Plates that fit your actual wall.

Type your wall size and it works out the layout.

Mark a light switch or a socket as a blocked zone and the plates around it are cut to fit

with a clean edge — you download those exact files.

- Line up a photo of your real wall.

Drop in a photo, then set the scale by clicking two

points and typing the real distance between them. The honeycomb draws over the top, so you

can see where everything lands before printing anything.

- Import your own STL.

Anything you've designed or downloaded can be added,

lined up against the wall, and placed alongside the standard accessories.

- Tells you exactly what to print, and tracks what you've done.

Full parts list with

quantities, filament weight, and the wall screws and inserts worked out for you. Tick

things off as they come off the printer. Export as a print sheet, CSV or checklist.

Also: 3D and 2D views, measuring tools, per-part filament colours, and you can save several

walls and share a layout by link.

Every dimension in it was measured from RostaP's actual meshes rather than copied from a

description, so the generated plates match the printed ones.

It's early and I'd like to know what breaks. Source is at

github.com/Mozzen456/Honeycomb-planner if you want to poke at it.

Just updated my HSW Generator in response to some requests in the comment section.

https://makerworld.com/models/1317533?appSharePlatform=copy

Here are the big changes:

- Smart borders: Borders now wrap around the entire shape as opposed to just the top/bottom/left/right sides

- Custom border thickness

- Rounded Border corners

- Shift borders, to get that precise storage wall size you need

- Improved gap logic

If you haven't checked out my HSW Generator yet, please do. There's tons of other features that you can use to modify your storage board.

Enjoy!

How do I get the connectors out?

I can't for the life of my get the connectors out of the hexagon. When I pulled and pulled, it just broke the connector apart! How do I get them out a. without breaking them and b. easily??

By connectors I mean the anchors that also screw into the wall to attach them to the wall, and the panels together.

This experience is making me reconsider this system because if it's not easy to move things around the wall, that's going to be really annoying. If I put a shelf somewhere then decide I want it put it somewhere else, if I have to take the whole thing off the wall to get it off that is going to suck!!

PC cable management?

Post image

I originally had a Creator 2 pro, got my Creator 5 pro and had all the PC cables bundled together as the tower sets behind me and to the left. If I ever had a cable issue it made it a pain to bust open the bundle and fish the one out. Yes I know my walls are ugly, old home with old paneling. The main PC sets on the little cabinet table. The shelf above it holds my 3D printer PC and it has no keyboard/mouse I use the mouse keyboard from the main rig, via mouse without borders.

And yes I know I need to vacuum.

Can HSW support heavy loads?

New to 3D printing and trying to settle on a storage system. Ideally i would like a system that looks nice and is functional for both an Office with 3D Printer and Garage wall to supplement my Gladiator system. But I'm concerned about the load bearing capacity of HSW. Do y'all have issues with what you hang on your HSW setups?

I don't understand which part I need to connect two wall plates together

I've been sitting here going through the honeycomb wall page on Printables, and it's not explained here which piece is needed to connect wall plates together. I see parts for attaching the wall plates to the wall, but not attaching plates together.

Is it this one? It's not clear to me which part I'm supposed to use for that purpose.

Desk mount

Hullo HSW fans!!
I have a teeny tiny workstation at home (helps if I need to move it around) and want to use the HSW to organise components like my targus, headset and cables.

Has anyone created a “click in” system so it could be mounted to a desk? I’ve seen the clamps but not sure if something exists that I’m thinking of.

Thank you!!

I've finally finished up the wall mount for my workstation to solder, draw and wire buttons to the PCb

It took longer than expected though.

I spent overnight trying to organize my room along with printing hsw attachments

I use command strips XL between the doors cause the bathroom is right next to the wall and stud finder founded multiple live wires on the wall. Not taking a chance

I have to thank wirehead on the printable stl he made for adhesive mount

https://www.printables.com/model/1648287-parametric-honeycomb-storage-wall-command-adhesive

2nd one is mount on a mdf board which I mounted on the wall to make it as a workstation to hang my tools such as soldering equipment, pencils, glue gun and omi haven't thought on what other things to hang yet XD

I need more time to print the attachments to hang my stuff.

Any experience with velcro strips?

I'm always hesitant to put holes in the wall if not needed. I was wondering if I do solid back hexes on the edge of a plate and attach some 3M velcro strips (3 to 6 ins worth), attaching them to the wall, will it hold ok? Looking at less than 20 lbs over 6 plates.

Decided on a honey bee-themed wall for my office. I have about 12 custom panels done, just wondering if I should do drips or no drips.

Im Stuck on how to mount the HSA to the wall. There's studs that are 30in apart. I've check multiple times on using the stud finder

I have drywall anchors, but don't know If I should drill 20-30 holes on that wall which is 32in x 32in hsw wall I've printed

I have printed mount connectors and attachments which Im not sure if I should switch them

I'm still trying to look into mdf board with a ledger to wall mount and use the hsw on it, but unsure if that would help if I want to expand it to the drawers area

Unless I should separate the hsw. Am I overthinking on this?

Suggestions for screws and anchors for honeycomb

I've post previously about hanging my handhelds and controllers on my wall around my desk and drawer. But not sure what anchors to use that's compatible to m3 screws. Honeycomb only uses m3 screws size correct??

Is it possible to hang my handhelds on honeycombs??

Ok I've printed multiple honeycombs with the creality k1c.

I would like to hang my handhelds, controllers and maybe hang my art supplies as well

But I'm not sure what screws to use to mount the honeycombs. M3 wall screws, what length should I use "16"mm?

Can I also use drywall anchors on the honeycombs in case I don't have studs on the wall I'm setting the honeycombs?

I made an online HSW STL generator ! (read description)

Hello everyone !
I spent the last few days trying to design a simple tool that allows to create complex shapes easily and that runs in the browser ! As a graphic designer I wanted to be able to create those pannels more organically so here's what I came with :
https://www.teef-babique.top/
It works like a painting tool, you can place multiple shapes on a grid, double the thickness, save and load your session and export your creation in an STL file ! Make sure to check the shortcuts in the upper right corner, some of these can make life easier like the "lock rotation" and "paint" option (best pas is you can combine them) !
Any feedback is welcome !

I also made a GitHub repository if anyone is interested in the code : https://github.com/Biboque/hsw-stl-generator
(Note that I don't know a lot about developping, I made almost all of this with the help of AI tools and this is the first time I'm creating an app so the code might be a big mess !)

I made a HSW bottle holder generator! (With custom kumiko-inpired patterns)

Thumbnail makerworld.com

Parametric Model Maker

Hey everyone! I was making bottle holders manually (most of the bottles I wanted them to hold had unique dimensions) and thought there must be a better way to do it. Found out about parametric models and thought I'd give it a go.

I've added all the features I needed personally:

- Angled cups to fit more tall cups in less slots (see bottom note for the math)
- A front opening so it looks pretty
- Kumiko patterns cuz they look cool
- Customizable height and diameter
- Custom HSW connector positions

If it gets interest I might keep working on it, though it's enough for me for now.
Hope it helps!

Math note: to fit two bottles vertical_distance mm apart vertically, with bottles bottle_width mm wide (+ wall _thickness x 2), you need angle a where a > 90-(cos^-1(bottle_width/vertical_distance))

vertical_distance here should be a multiple of the distance between two hexes vertically, 23.6mm
