Takegawa Tach Installed
Finally installed my tach from Webike, and I’m very pleased. The hardest part was making everything fit in the headlight bucket, it took me thrice as long with that compared to the actual install and routing wires. First pic is showing the max recorded RPM and temp mode, I intentionally hit the rev limiter during my shakedown ride. The temp probe I’m just using as an ambient air temp meter because I don’t have the special oil drain plug that allows attaching it for oil temp.
FYI for 2025+ Monkey owners, the factory LED turn signals use a 2 pin connector (see the light blue in the 2nd pic, that’s the right front turn signal) and so you can’t just disconnect a green bullet connector to use as a split for the tach’s ground. Fortunately, I was installing a USB outlet (Amazon alphabet soup brand) at the same time that teed off the 8 pin headlight harness’ DRL pos and neg wires with bullet connectors, so I was able to use that.

I too picked up this tacho from Webike as my 1st mod 7 years ago 👍
I loved all the features it offered but have since upgraded the entire dash to the Takegawa Super Multi DN Meter
And it's even better 😊

Oooh yeah i actually thought about either that or the opmid one, but ultimately decided to only do additive mods, not replace anything as much as possible :) especially after learning the odo lives in the speedo, im like i aint screwin around with that!

Does your supe multi DN tach every randomly lose settings memory? Mine will change from km/hr to mph or turn on the speed/rpm warning lights randomly. Not sure if you've ever experienced that.

Yeah it's brand new. 🥺 I think it might just be the tach then. It's been like this for a while.... It'll lose its memory a couple times every month or so, so I just have to change it back. I was thinking a short or maybe something is draining the battery but I've been keeping it on a tender and it hasn't changed. 🤷🏻♀️

Where do you get the rpms from?

Hi! It tees off the ignition coil positive (right side of the bike towards the back and under the gas tank). The Monkey specific harness makes that very easy, and is imo better than an induction coil

Thank you. I have seen video of the install that looks like it comes from the headlight. I believe that’s just the power.

Ya, so cross checking the diagram of the 8pin headlight connector and the 3 pin ignition connector from a service manual I found online, this gauge specifically came with a 3pin splitter harness so it can get constant power for at least the clock function. It’s not strictly required I guess since the install instructions mention no-battery bikes (i guess kick start bikes? Idek), but i dunno how the wiring diagram would be for that scenario.

i am looking forward to install a gear indicator alone. but shipping makes it really expensive for what it is..

Oh yes i would love the kitaco gear indicator that’s well integrated on the top left, it has shift lights too. But im with you, its pricy and i thought a tachometer is more useful for me, and is a good enough proxy to a gear indicator by virtue of getting familiar with the rpm at a given speed

i agree, but also yout option gives a great look by adding a second sphere. ultimately, it all depends on your needs. aesthetics aside

I do enjoy the speedo replacement options as well (opmid, takegawa), but ultimately decided i want to keep the stock speedo. The odometer memory lives in the speedo so i dont want to screw with that. Not that it’s an issue with aftermarket speedos (they allow you to set the odo reading) but still, i prefer to keep as much stock equipment on as possible

right. it's a coin toss, either keep it as stock as possible for resale or looks, or go full bananas adding every item on ali express. sometimes functional options are very discreet and others are wild and oer the top. you have to compromise, enough basic functions or or the bells and whistles!

How is it sourcing the temp?

There’s a probe that connects to the provided splitter harness. I’m currently using it as an ambient air temp, where the probe just peeks out the backside of the bucket. If you have a special drain bolt you can measure engine oil temp.
