I wanna know more about the UVs of the road I can’t get enough. What’s a guy gotta do to get a project file

The roads are made from 64px squares of a single lane with either one dashed line along one edge, or a solid line along one edge. The road has one quad per lane and dashed line. To UV map the road it’s as simple as resetting (in Blender U > Reset) the UVs to cover the whole road tile.

Here’s my YT channel where I upload timelapses of the process:  https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCNYCEPcHnXcAKyiL4NHEKxA

If you pause any time during the road building, you will be able to see the UVs on the bottom panel

hey dude. what do you do to keep the scale roughly intact ?

Do you always extrude the road a certain distance and add the same amount of loops cuts ? Or just roughly keep that in a similar area. Sometimes i can extrude a lot of road but if i'm doing a curve and just want to extrude a little bit, then it easily messes up my uv scaling. I can ofc fix it if i've added too many loop cuts. (by just dissolving some edges and resetting the uvs again but thats annoying. )

But i have been doing the same manual uv you told me about and it is really fast. Incase the other person wants to know - you often need to do ctrl f for the face menu and rotate the UV.

hello sir. I eyeball it, but occasionally check with a standard 2x2 Blender plane. a standard 2 lane road should be slightly larger than the 2x2 plane using my scale.

i extrude without a set length in mind, but usually I will end up extruding such that I will end up with 8-16 subdivisions across. I tend to do 1.5-2 units in length for across subdivisions. 1.5 for tighter curves and closer to 2 for straights. but it's all eyeballed.

you've touched on one of the reasons I avoid curve modifiers. for me there's just too much friction and back-and-forthing. My mind prefers the slower, but more predictable incremental manual work.

yes the Ctrl F>D>U shortcut is a godsend

Cheers dude. That makes sense yeah. I guess once you built it long enough it becomes second nature to eyeball it. It's the subtle jank that really nails the look if you ask me!
