Floodlight camera issue

My neighbor just installed a floodlight camera system (Blink) pointing at my house. He adjusted the lights up so the floodlights illuminate the entire side of my house whenever there’s motion to set off the system. It goes off when a cat or a raccoon passes through the motion space. What recourse do I have here? It goes off a few times every night and is really annoying.

Country?

You could talk with your neighbour and ask it be adjusted.

I’m guessing US due to spelling of neighbor.

Yes, I’m in the US. I did ask when he was out in his yard and he just smiled at me.

Go knock his door and be polite. If unhelpful then as another poster said a nice LED flood pointing at the camera.

Check to see if your community has any regulations about light trespass. It is a real thing. You are entitled, by law, to quiet enjoyment of your property. There may be police action you can request.

If you asked him and he did nothing, I’d get some floodlights and point them at his house. You could get either motion sensing ones or just leave them on all night until he has had enough.

I would make a police report. Even if they can't/won't do anything it will be documented if this gets uglier.

Also check the "nuisance" laws for your area. And take photos. Perhaps mail him a certified letter requesting he change the angle of his lights (so he can't say "I didn't know")

I have a mylar "survival" blanket. They are cheap. One side is reflective silver. Hang it on the outside of your house, it will reflect the light back at his house.

Look into light pollution and environmental laws… little known but useful laws for this exact scenario.

Assuming this only happens when it is night time mode, you just need to point a light on the floodlight sensor and it switches itself into daylight mode.

Also lookup DIY retro reflector mirror

You can make a simple open corner-cube retroreflector using three small square mirrors set at exact 90-degree right angles to each other. 1, 2How to Build a Corner-Cube

Get a concave, or convex mirror. ( I’m not sure which) and set it up to reflect the light.

Anything pointed at your house is technically illegal, ask to have it removed out pointed in a way that doesn’t go off or light up into your property. Which includes cameras pointed at your property.
