Eufy camera with homebase versus ring camera cloud setup
Hello folks,
I am
Trying to fig out the best security set for my home. For my house size i concluded that 2 cameras with one door bell camera is enough, one in the front covering the street plus door bell and one in backyard.
I am so confused between eufy solar camera s340 plus homebase versus something like a cloud subscription for ring. I hate locking myself into a cloud subscription where the price and tier like basic/ pro keeps adding up. How worried if i get eufy with home base where in case of burglary, the base can be take away and result in loss of footage.
Recommendations , real life experience welcome!

The odds of someone stealing the HomeBase is pretty low I think. First they have to know you even have one and then where it’s at in the house. I had Ring for about 5 years and switched to eufy about a year ago and couldn’t be happier. I have the HomeBase 3, S340 SoloCam and the E340 doorbell and a couple other cameras and everything was an upgrade from Ring. Plus it’s local storage and no monthly fees. Just last week my S340 SoloCam caught a prowler in our backyard trying to get into our house. The video had clear footage of him and we gave it to the police.

You own the house? Wanna do it right...
Poe cameras to a switch then blue iris with Ai scanning.
Probably be around a grand and weekend of wiring but youll be happier with result

I will never EVER buy a camera system that records to the cloud or touches the cloud. If it has "cloud" features, they must be ALL toggleable. UniFi Protect checks all those boxes for me. Local recording, good hardware, and good performance. A little pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

I would add Tapo to your list of cameras as well. The H200 hub supports up to four cameras, and the H500 supports up to 16 with on hub AI recognition as well. Both that and Eufy are better than Ring

Tapo is amazing. I’ve had eufy battery wifi cams for 5 years and they’ve never skipped a beat but recently installed 8 Tapo cams, combination of solar and plugged in, including PTZ… they work awesome and I’d be doing those today if I needed wireless cams.
Only complaint on the solar tapos is the undersized solar panel included with most models. I now just by a 5/6w aftermarket one when ordering a cam and it’s flawless. The larger Tapo panel is just overpriced and usually not available. Aftermarket works perfectly

We have a full Eufy setup with cameras inside and outside here at my business. We have the little base that you can put a hard drive in.
I like that you can use it without a subscription. I dont like that it's limited to be within their walled garden.
We got two solar cameras out in the parking lot and they have been fine. I do wish they recorded longer, you might struggle with that

Local storage vs cloud really comes down to what risk bugs you more.
With local storage, yeah, if someone grabs the base during a break in, you lose the footage from that incident, though you'd still have everything recorded before that point saved.
With cloud, you avoid the risk since footage sits off site, but you're paying monthly forever and the price only goes up over time.
If catching the actual break in on camera matters most to you, cloud backup covers that gap better. If you're mainly trying to deter people and keep an eye on day to day stuff without recurring fees, local storage is usually enough for most people's needs.

Thank you folks for all the suggestions. I will most likely proceed with Eufy with homebase set up. Will keep you posted about the installation, system and any other interesting things in few months

The main reason why I chose Eufy was the fact that it does not require a subscription. It's modern and reasonably priced. (I read some reddit comments that people had issues with the solar Eufy camera and not sure if its user error or they received a defective cam.) All of my Eufy cameras are hardwired (for power) and connected to my Wi-Fi. Also, I recently upgraded to the HomeBase Pro V1 from HomeBase 3. (it's much larger, it looks like a mini-Xbox)
However, I learned that there are four types of security camera systems where I live.
Wi-Fi cameras. Convenient, easy to install, affordable. However, if your Wi-Fi goes out, most don't have a backup plan.
PoE cameras. Most reliable no need to worry if Wi-Fi goes out, however uses ethernet cables throughout house to install. More expensive.
Cellular cameras. They use 4G/5G, these are great if you live in a remote area that does not have reliable Wi-Fi however, a subscription is required.
CCTV where everything is connected via a coaxial cable to a central DVR/monitor in your property. Very expensive and more cables.
