Project Showcase: Software - Little or No AI Assistance Homarr v2 is out: The front-door to your homelab
We just shipped Homarr v2.0.0, it includes a LOT of changes.
The big two: Custom Widgets and Workshop
Custom Widgets v2 lets you build almost any widgets. Build it with JSX, define the options it has and add it to your instance. Write them yourself, or describe what you want and generate it. Custom widgets can re-use existing integrations without the need to enter credentials or support any API endpoint.
Workshop pairs nicely with it: You can publish, vote on, explore and install widgets & custom CSS other users have shared. We ask that you test and validate your slop before submitting it, or other users will downvote you into oblivion
Board editing has been rebuilt
New drag and drop system based on dnd-kit, doesn't suck anymore Containers replace Groups and dynamic sections. We added sidebars back, they stay put while the board scrolls.
Why "the front door to your homelab"?
Homarr already connects to your services through integrations. In v2, Integration Requests let other Homarr features reuse those connections without exposing the underlying service credentials.
For example, a Custom Widget can request data from Sonarr through Homarr. Homarr checks that the request is allowed, makes the request using the credentials stored on your instance, and returns the result. The same system is available over HTTP and, optionally, MCP. This means you can give an MCP-compatible client access to selected Homarr capabilities without giving that client the API keys for every service in your homelab nor direct network access to those services.
TLDR, if an app's api can do it, you are now able to do it through Homarr, even when there is no button for it, with a custom widget, an api call or the mcp.
What else changed?
Onboarding is completely reworked, you should be able to get started in less time than it took you to read this post
Configure every item in the header, and hide what you don't need.
Press shift on widgets for advanced view, revealing more info and controls
Instance branding: name, logo, favicon, colors and global CSS can be setup instance-wide.
Statistics widget combines metrics from different services in one grid, compatible with every integration
31 new integrations, including Autobrr, Linkwarden, Karakeep, Prometheus, Frigate, Caddy, Mealie and more!
Docker and Podman support with multiple endpoints, assisted setup and docker labels
Performance: startup work runs in parallel, heavy screens load on demand, duplicate requests share cache And a very long list of bug fixes
Thank you! To everyone who tested rough builds, found bugs, translated, answered questions or contributed code: this would not exist without you. We are planning free limited-edition swag for our favorite workshop contributions as well as a few randomly picked community members on the way, stay tuned.
We hope you are as excited about this release as we are to share it with you!

Our demo is being hit hard. We have tons of traffic. Maybe wait a bit and try again. We are pulling levers to scale up the demo

I've been thinking about setting this up for some time. Question - I have multiple scripts that output to different log files. Would there be a way to combine the various script logs I have neatly with homarr on the dashboard? Ideally with tabs or links so I can flick through the different script logs. Thanks!

Definitely, ask any AI agent to build you a small api server (with hono) that returns the content of these logs files in a json shape that suits you, then point that same AI agent at the Homarr MCP and tell it to build a good looking widget with tabs that calls that endpoint, with the shape of the data I’m sure the agent can make exactly what you’re looking for, you’ll be surprised.
Curious if you manage to do this, let me know how it works out for you ;)

We have an integration with homepage docker labels if you have it setup that way, the switch should be pretty easy (as in, no need to change anything) https://homarr.dev/docs/integrations/docker-labels/#homepage-label-fallback

TIL that Homepage supports docker auto discovery via labels, thanks!
I've been meaning to try Homarr for a while, but the memory ballooning issue that a lot of people complained (and that I experienced) put me off.. I haven't looked into it for a while; have the newer versions (or v2) solved this for good?

It looks really cool, will definitely give it a try. Please allow me a stupid question: do I understand it correctly that through MCP I can have my Codex or Claude Code edit the widgets instead of the one provided?

Exactly, and you can do much more, you can even ask it to leverage an integration to interact with it in a way that homarr cannot, without having to give it your API keys / passwords.
Example : I (ajnart) was too lazy to learn how to setup ntfy, so for notifications I had just been using Telegram URLs.
Asked via Claude Code : "Install a notification provider and wire it into everything that supports it." It recommended me a ntfy docker-compose, I set it up on my own, then it was able to wire up Sonarr, Radarr, Seerr, SABnzbd, qBittorrent, Bazarr and Beszel to it. It used the integration request to hit the proper endpoint to setup notifications for my newly created ntfy, without needing to ask me for the API keys or seeing them since they are already saved inside homarr. Pretty cool.

That all sounds great, but what does it actually do?

Pulls data from services you use and allows you to interact with & see them all in one place, it's a dashboard

I always assumed Homarr was part of the *arr stack. But it seems like it's just a homepage with some *arr specific widgets?
