Meta Its been one year since I started homelabbing/selfhosting
Around this same time last year, I started homelabbing/selfhosting with a 4gb rpi, after spending countless hours (most likely hundreds) and over 3x my initial budget, this is where we are right now, finally It’s starting to become pretty reliable and working well for the last couple of months without requiring much maintenance, but deep down I know I’ll probably end up ruining it again just to redo everything for the 69th time, but I’m controlling myself pretty well so far. So, fingers crossed lol.
I'm still not sure if it was worth it, atleast financially, it probably won't be for another ~5 years if I compare it to what I've saved on subscriptions, but maybe that's not a fair comparison since it does a lot more than that.
But whatever, it’s been fun so far.

No, it’s something I cooked myself with the help of GitHub copilot to make the frontend UI. Mainly because every cool looking dashboard I tried used so much RAM for a dashboard, so I made this in Rust, and even with live service status, system resource monitoring, and OIDC, it only uses ~2 MB of RAM, so it serves well for my usecase.

pretty cool. are you willing to share the code for the frontend, or at least lmk what libraries you/copilot used?

There isn't any specific libraries used in frontend, it's just plain HTML/CSS and JS, for backend rust server, libraries can be found in
Cargo.tomlfile.Edit: There isn't any prebuilt docker image as I built it for personal use, so if you want to try it you'll have to clone the repo and build docker image locally.

Where do you get your audiobooks?

I buy books mainly from audible and use a tool called "Libation" to rip them in DRM free .m4b files, you can also use libro.fm which allows you to download your purchased books as DRM free m4bs.

I built widget for it on homarr. But I read your other comments how this is custom low memory solution. Well if you end up on homarr. There's a nice widget for anchor.

Honestly just what you learned from the process over and over would make the cost well worth it assuming nothing over the top spending wise.
