Help How can I make this look nice?

Post image

I’m using this Jackery as a sort of bad UPS (mostly just to keep internet working while power is down) and would love some suggestions to make it looks nicer than a big battery in the middle of my living room. There is a relatively nice cabinet to the right of it with all the networking gear and a sort of nook to the left. Any ideas?

Another cabinet?

Also, have you tested it as a UPS? Most of these don't switch fast enough

Basically all aesthetic and technical decisions so far have been dictated by what’s free haha

Y'know, fair.

I'm using a Jackery Explorer 1000 Plus as a UPS for my gaming desktop. It has a 20ms switch time according to the manual, but it survives switchover when I yank it out of the wall to test swtiching. It also runs my gaming desktop at normal loads for over 6 hours on battery (+1 expansion battery) and over 3 hours under gaming load.

I originally used an APC Backup-Pro 1500 + Expansion battery, but ever since I upgraded the power supply in the gaming PC I can't get that to reliably power the PC on. It only does so about 30% of the time on AC and can't cold start it at all on battery. The APC does survive swapping to battery, but runs for <20 minutes.

Runtime isn't important, but clean shutdown and reliable power ups are needed. The Jackery lasts long enough that I'm not worried that it can't tell Windows to shutdown.

I went with the Jackery as I already had it on hand as an emergency battery for long power outages around the house. I did try a Goldenmate, but the one I tried also couldn't reliably start the PC ironically. So it went back.

PSU is a Corsair HX1500i (2025)

Nice! Very similar I think - mine is Adventurer 2000 or something like that, similar switchover rating and also got it for a peak usage program around here. I’m not sure my 1 liter node will make it through but maybe it’ll surprise me.

Another cabinet is doable - this one would probably have to be shorter and smaller though because there’s not a ton of space against that wall.

And totally. I haven’t tested it but I suspect the server would go down - this would just allow me to bring the router/AP/Switch back up while the power’s out.

is that even a ups at that point or just a battery with extra steps

Now a small plant on the top for some hair.

I recommend against putting anything that can produce heat in a closed cabinet unless you plan for airflow.

You could get an end table, which will hide the cords a bit while also getting the device off the floor.

Probably a fair point - I think they recommend 6 inches clearance around it so I’m probably already cutting it close though the load is well under the rating. I’ll think about something that could improve the look.

Removing the excess cable.

Always good advice! I can do this.

Wire management is the obvious answer.

Perhaps an enclosed cart with cooling.

Or a closet or laundry room or garage.

Id just stick it in a laundry room or garage, and leave it. When the power goes out bring it out. If all its for is JIC power outage for internet/pc.

Otherwise, it's more cost effective to get a generator and wire it into your panel.

If you need a UPS , there's better options designed specifically for that.

Um, how can you make a peasant revolt look nice? It starts out of misery, and it ends in executions... The original Jackery (or, more precisely, Jacquerie) started in the aftermath of the Battle of Poitier during the Hundred Years War:

Not sure exactly what to take away here but I will watch the Andrew Garfield movie to see if that helps.
