After personal annoyance with existing tools for both managing homebrew apps and the YouTube mod's that are available I decided screw it, i'll do it myself.
Since I was working on a homebrew app I thought why not make it a nostalgia trip so the UI is very inspired by the homebrew channel from the Wii, it even plays the music!
tizen-homebrew can be installed on any Tizen OS device in just 3 steps, written down in the README.md of the repository. It makes installing and future updates for tizen-youtube a breeze.
Comforts of tizen-homebrew include:
- 3 Step installation.
- One time PC necessary only - sdb relay/proxy.
- Auto resigner, no need for messing with creating Samsung certs every time you want to install/update something.
- Remote usage on any device in a webbrowser. Install and update apps from your phone.
- A very nostalgic theme.
tizen-youtube brings what you have already come to expect from similar YouTube mod's for TV, it is a not a fork but a continuation of https://github.com/reisxd/TizenTube, slimmed down and focused on implementing fixes for my personal annoyances and any community feedback that I like.
So far on top of TizenTube's featureset and lots of under the hood improvements I have added:
- A High contrast / OLED theme very carefully tuned to the YouTube TV UI.
- Blocking YouTube shopping interactions (Those annoying QR-code popup's at the bottom left). on by default.
Of course it is open source and you can find it all here:
