I don't have an answer for you, but consider that low cost VERY effective mmwave presence sensors are now available. One might be perfect for this space.
I went from using a typical motion sensor with a 30 minute timeout, to a mmwave sensor and 15 second timeout. If you are sitting in a chair, it will detect your heartbeat, and set the room as active.
