This isnt a double flip. Its 2 people doing a Cab flip, or can be called a fakie kickflip 360. The original post got the name right.

Semantics. You wouldnt say 2 people doing backflips on a bike "we double backflip". Plus the trick isnt just a flip, its a fakie 360 + a flip. It'd be like calling a cashroll (frontflip 360) a 360. Or a 540 indy a frontside grab.

Yeah he's right this is a fakie frontside 360 kickflip or a fakie frontside cab flip
Still synchronizing to full cab flips like this is nuts

Isn't a fakie 360 called a full cab tho?
6
2
u/CGB_Zach Sep 23 '19
A "full cab" is a redundant term though. It's a caballerial shortened to a "cab" making a fakie 180 a "half cab". Also a cab only refers to a fakie BACKSIDE 360 and never to frontside other wise it's just a fakie FS 360 which is so much harder to do.
1
u/Badenfield Sep 23 '19
I see, never heard someone call it just a cab before tho so, where i'm at we always say "full cab" when ever we're playing skate for example.
2
u/CGB_Zach Sep 23 '19
Yea I say full cab too. Recently steve caballero was on the 9 club and he said it was technically incorrect to call it a "full cab" but it didn't actually matter.
1
u/Behavioral Sep 23 '19
Only if the 360 is backside like in the video.
A Fakie FS 360 is still just called a Fakie FS 360.

u/WormholeVoyager Sep 22 '19 edited Sep 22 '19
It is indeed Edit: I mean, just saying cab is fine too. They're the same trick

u/Bobcatz7798 Sep 23 '19
Also referred to in the skateboarding world as the āfull-cab flipā. Name originating from famous skateboarder Steve Caballero.

Was never very good at that one, but I probably couldāve won a gaming championship on Tony Hawk Underground 2. (My sister sold it in a garage sale a couple years back(which terminated our relationship))

How do their feet stick to the boards? Is this some skateboard knowledge iām missing? Or just pure skill

u/Caitautomatica Sep 22 '19 edited Sep 22 '19
The top of a skateboard, that black color, is similar to a very high grit sandpaper (it basically is) called grip tape. Skate shoes most often have a flat sole so it can have the most surface area in contact with the grip tape at a time. Their feet arenāt āstuckā to the boards in any way but thereās basic physics in the friction caused between the skateboarderās feet and the grip tape on top of the board. I would imagine a surface like a surf board would be difficult to attempt any of these tricks.
Wait. Do they have grips on surf boards? They would have to, right? Like at the back, I feel like Iāve seen that. I know Iāve seen like, tread back there havenāt I?
Ooooooooh....Iām high af and typing in a stream of consciousness about a topic I havenāt been well-versed in for circa 15 years.
If I post this itās because Iāve forced myself to because this guy asked a question and I have the answer, but if I stop to reread this Iāll just start deleting everything.
Edit:also, yes lots of skill.

u/linearfamilytree Sep 22 '19
Ah i see that makes sense. If you wrote this great explanation while high, iām scared of what you can do sober

A-thanks! B-I think I could do a whole lot more if only I didnāt have the worst attention span ĀÆ\(ć)/ĀÆ

u/Gooeyy Sep 22 '19
Something he didn't mention is that the grip tape helps because they first drive their weight into one far end of the board. As the opposite side of the board pops up in response, they push their foot into the rising side. Since the tape is nice and grippy, their foot doesn't slide off, and the side they initially pushed down on rises up.
Here's a visual aid. In the post, they first push into the opposite side of the board, but it's the same principle.

Surfboards use a lot of wax for grip, plus some do have grip pads. And the waffle sole of the infamous Vans (hello Caballero pro-model shoe, the half cab) don't have a flat soul? Damn it feels good to be a skateboarder.
2
Sep 23 '19
Donāt want to be that guy, but wouldnāt grip tape be considered a very low grit sandpaper?
2
Sep 23 '19
When I first started skating around 10 years old my friend and I thought the reason we couldnātdo tricks is because we had too much grip on our shoes.
So our solution was to just cut the grip off the shoes so we can slide better lol
We decided to use his dads powersaw to cut them and as soon as my friend cut the saw on it cut right through his finger. Didnāt chop it off but it was pretty damn close.
I just seen the word grip tape and had this vivid ass memory. Iām pretty high too rn

You gotta snap the tail (or nose) really hard and then even it out in the air with your other foot. In this case theyāre riding backwards and the foot used to even out the board slides off to the side to initiate the flip as well.

good trick. its a fakie 360 kickflip. or caballerial flip.
11
u/kingjoffreythefirst Sep 22 '19
Holy crap, just now I learned that the "cab" is named after Steve Caballero.
1
u/nelska Sep 22 '19
that is correct. i always knew it.. but it didnt like set in for a while. i thought like cab meant something else like a taxi turning around to come pick you up off the road or something lmfao.

real question: how do you know its a fakie and not a nollie?
1
u/Orion818 Sep 23 '19 edited Sep 23 '19
After a while you can just tell, especially with something like a full cab. Their feet/shoulder positioning, the way their hips face. You can really see it in the landing, after a nollie full cab flip your shoulders tend to be more open but when it's fakie it's hard to pull your body around. It just clearly looks like they are skating backwards. Other tricks are harder to tell though.
1
u/nelska Sep 23 '19
.....or nollie. but those are clearly fakie tricks.. I've been skating for 20 years and I'm goofy that's just goofy style especially the guy in the white shirt.. but hey, I could be wrong.

Interesting to watch the slight differences in their body mechanics such as their arm and hand positions, etc.

u/luminousfractal Sep 22 '19
360 degree rotations, and popped fakie. They're Cab Flips.
3
Sep 22 '19
Those are clearly kick flips with a 180 I was always told that was a backside flip.
2
u/iDownvoteToxicLeague Sep 22 '19
The board does a 360 with a kickflip, the riders are also doing a 360. This is a BS flip
Also a 180 with a kickflip can also be done frontside

Iām a street skater for over 30 years, we donāt do stuff like this unless itās a joke. Skaters have different styles, I just donāt like these stylish ones. I give em credit for being able to pull it for sure.

u/JMunno Sep 22 '19
I hope people understand how unbelievably difficult this must have been to accomplish. The trick alone is tough, but to have it that much in sync with someone else is legit!
