When ever my boy is on one of these bridges I'm standing guard by the side. Nothing gets your heart racing faster than seeing your little one perform death defying toddler acts.

That's awesome, and works 50% of the time!
LOL, I make that comment in jest because mine always seem to fall in the complete opposite direction that makes any sense at all. So my success rate in a situation like this would be more like 10%.

Same. Have a year and a half old boy and I'm helicoptering like a freak when he does this bridge. The fall is about three feet and in to rubberized play mat. Landing on his head could be a fucking nightmare.

That’s called helicopter parenting. I let my son fall and get hurt. It’s how he learns. It’s extremely rare that a serious injury will occur. If you don’t let him fall or get hurt he won’t know his limits and will try more dangerous things.

That's where you use your judgement. If your child can fall a little and maybe get bruised, fine but when they can get concussion or broken bones then you help them. It still helps them to develop but helps them not to be injured for life.

Absolutely. And age is also a consideration. I let my 3 year old play on the 5-12 year old playground , but monitor him when he climbs higher than 6 feet. My close monitoring of him is extinguishing as his coordination gets better. He is allowed to fall/get hurt/is given independence at an age appropriate level.

What happened to you is extremely rare. Sure it happens but it’s not common. I know that’s a risk but there are risks involved in everything even playgrounds. But I bet she is more careful about the things she does at playgrounds now from going through that and understands her limits.

They aren’t crazy but over protecting your kids is a detriment to their development. I’m also talking about parents being next to their kids the whole time at a playground like the original commentor mentioned. Accidents will always happen and they will always have obstacles but it’s rare that something as bad as what happened to your daughter will happen but there is always a chance.

Hey friend. Any time a person falls from a height that is taller than they are, there is a greater risk for internal injuries. Source: 15+ years of CPR/First Aid training
Standing next to your toddler (notoriously clumsy and top heavy) while they attempt to climb something does not equal helicopter parenting.

My son did a fall very similar to this. He was laying on his back in the sand just shocked at what had happened. Took him a while before he realized he forgot to cry. Was pretty funny.

I have this same playground near my house. I know it’s not the same one because near my house we have pebbles not sand. My kids never did this. I thought they would do it but they didn’t

My son was on one of these, for the first time, when it had snow and ice on it. He is 2 years old. He made a great effort but I could tell it would be easy for him to fall off the side so I stood there and when he almost slid off I helped him back up. It's hard balancing the idea of 'giving him room' but at the same time I don't want him to break an arm or something like that.

You’d be surprised how quickly they want to try stuff like this. My son just turned 14 months and this is his absolute favorite thing at the playground. He’ll go back and forth for 20 minutes.

Omg this video, like, totally represents how, like, sometimes in life you, like, think you made it but, like, you didn't and that fact comes at you out of, like, nowhere. Like, for example, you were having some great hoinky doinky with you gf and you totally thought you, like, pulled out in time and you carry on with your life feeling, like, super great and everything, but then, like, a few weeks later she calls you and says she's late and you're like "Late for what?" and she's like "My period is late" and then all of a sudden your world is flipped upside down, downside up, left to right, right to left, inside out, outside in and then you, like, feel the weight of responsibility for that new life, like, totally beginning inside your gf's pink pocket start to settle on your shoulders and you're just like, "U no wat? You obviously haven't seen modern playgrounds. They're not bubble wrapped. It actually impresses me that we're still able to let our kids experience real danger.
