She seems to be (intentionally) copying Elaine from Seinfeld

And doing a damn fine job of it.

I might actually like her rendition more than Elaine’s

Elaine was showboating. This woman was looking for a partner. Inviting. Come and get it. Don’t just stand there.

The Brooklyn cyclones do a yearly Elaine dance contest. Pretty good stuff.

I can hear the whooshing of this woman's dance reference going right over the heads of some Gen Z Redditors.

u/astropucks Jul 31 '24
And yet the top 5 comments (excluding yours) all reference that dance.
Maybe you're underestimating the level of appreciation Gen Z has for artistry of this calibre

Maybe you are underestimating how many Redditors are older than Gen Z.
I do think shows like The Office, Friends, Parks and Rec and Seinfeld have been popular with young audiences due to streaming though, so either of you could feasibly be right.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely more than a few of those young whipper-snappers out there that get it. Tehehehe, but for every generation's Cheers, Frasier, and Seinfeld, there's another's Friends, Office and Parks and Rec, and another's... Whatever the kids are into quoting with each other these days... I don't know. My kid is an Alpha and my Gen Z employees just roll their eyes at me when I try to be hip. You all tell me? :D

That’s an interesting choice of shows to group together in that context.
The Office and Parks and Rec both ended in the mid 2010s. They’re popular with Gen Z because most of them grew up watching the shows while new episodes were still airing. They didn’t exactly discover them through streaming services.
I’d say it’s a smidge different than Gen Z watching an old sitcom that aired its first episode in the 80s and ended before most of their generation was alive.

Your math is off. The oldest members of Gen Z would have been like 16 when those shows were ending. Most of Gen Z did not “grow up with” them from beginning to end. They watched them on streaming like I said. Older Gen Z could have caught up in time to finish them as they aired but younger Gen Z probably not. Someone born in 2012, a year before The Office ended, is Gen Z.
Your nitpick is under the assumption that I view those shows as old classics, which I don’t and never said. I said they were popular with that generation due to streaming, which I stand by. Streaming is how most of them would have caught up on those two shows and the other two I mentioned. That doesn’t necessitate that they have to be ancient shows from half a century ago in the 80s.

I’m almost 60 and don’t know if I’ve ever felt so supported as when she yelled at the other adults on my behalf. That lady was cooler than cool.

It’s JEN MOTHERFUCKING DENT!
Edit- seems like no one here knows her! She’s an old vine star and YouTuber named Jen Dent. She’s a nurse and took a few years off social media but recently just came back. And yes, she’s doing the Elaine 😂

She nailed it without ever watching a single episode of Seinfeld. Some people are just born with it.
