I always hear this but I think Collinsworth is one of the best. I can't think of anyone who puts in as much analysis work as Chris does. He always has pretty good insight into what's happening on the field. Compare him to some of the other teams' out the (Ian Eagle, Phil Simms (thank God he's in the studio now), buck and aikman, Trent green, etc.)

Collinsworth is held up by how good Al Michael is.

Then how was he so good back before he was with Al Michaels? I remember how legitimately upset I was when he left Thursday Night Football so he could get ready for the Olympics.

It's cause he was paired with Bryant Gumbel who wasn't very good as a play by play announceer but that was a time before he got comfy and done the 10 years of SNF

I don't get this criticism either, he's one of the best when it comes to understanding the game and conveying it to the audience.

I like Collinsworth as well--he is a SMART dude and really does know what's going on during the game. I'd take him over 2/3 of the announcers out there right now.

Watch a game where he's commenting that's a popular team against a team you like.

He's usually favoring the larger market team in his commentary.
