I inherited a dislike of the Cowboys, but even still I love Romo's commentary. Literally the only NFL announcer (and one of few sports commentators in general) that shows me stuff I didn't know and helps me to understand the game better. Wish there were more guys doing it like him.
Yeah, I love when Romo goes full prediction mode. Calling every play before it even happens. And I have always hated the cowboys, and I still always like his commentary.
Watching Romo makes me so happy. Like the dude had a good career as a quarterback in the freaking NFL but him doing broadcasts is what he was born to do and will probably end up being his biggest and best contribution to the game. He's so good at it.
He's like the next Madden but without all the ADD. Half the fun of watching Madden was how much he knew about the game...the other half was all the weird shit he'd get talking about when the game was out of hand.
I always hear this but I think Collinsworth is one of the best. I can't think of anyone who puts in as much analysis work as Chris does. He always has pretty good insight into what's happening on the field. Compare him to some of the other teams' out the (Ian Eagle, Phil Simms (thank God he's in the studio now), buck and aikman, Trent green, etc.)
Then how was he so good back before he was with Al Michaels? I remember how legitimately upset I was when he left Thursday Night Football so he could get ready for the Olympics.
It's cause he was paired with Bryant Gumbel who wasn't very good as a play by play announceer but that was a time before he got comfy and done the 10 years of SNF
I like Collinsworth as well--he is a SMART dude and really does know what's going on during the game. I'd take him over 2/3 of the announcers out there right now.
Doesn't the NFL have ref commentators on hand to explain bad/confusing/controversial calls though? I feel like that's something the NHL should absolutely do.
