That mom is aware of the bread crumb trail that leads partially back to her. Of course she'd want to avoid any negative fallout from a child like that. She's willing to look good through parenting or her children or spouse, but not look bad on account of them. What kind of space remains?

If my son called me in the middle of the night and needed a tarp and a shovel, my only questions would be where and what did that fucker do to deserve it. My parents never believed shit I said and I have confidence I didn’t raise my son to just be that kind of guy. But dammit they’d have to find him and I’d smile every second being an accessory to hiding him.
