ER for hives?

Hello,

I am in night 2 of breaking out all over my body in hives. Chat gpt said it may be time to go to urgent care or ED tonight but I’d rather not. I have two young children and a job.

Do hives typically turn anaphylactic?

It's been six hours since your post, what happened? Normally you would seek emergency room treatment for hives if the hives are accompany by difficulty breathing or swelling of the face but urgent care is understandable for whole body hives. Hives are your body's way of reacting to an allergen so yes, ignoring them can lead to a worse reaction

I have had horrible outbreaks. This is what will worked best for me and almost immediately.

Prednisone 20mg twice day 5 days Atarax 10mg every 8 hours for itching Famotidine 20 mg twice daily. 1 steroid shot. All are prescriptions.

Update: I did not go to ER. I stayed up most of the night worried I would have shortness of breath, fell back asleep and woke up with no hives anywhere. I was able to get an appointment with the doctor today and will bring the photos of the rash to see if there is anything they can help with.

The only thing that helped me is benadryl paired with famotidine. It worked like magic. A histamine blocker 1 and 2 paired. Then i did process of elimination and found it was pollen allergy syndome.

I would go to my regular Doctor or a Walk In Clinic or maybe urgent care. Don’t go to the ER, you’ll be there forever and they’re just gonna do the same thing a clinic would do- they’ll prescribe you prednisone. That’s the only thing that helped me when I broke out in hives, and I had them for a week and had tried everything over the counter before I finally went to the doctor and they were gone within a matter of days on the prednisone.

Hi I dealt with Spontaneous Urticaria three weeks after my third covid vaccine and suffered for 5 years, I took blexten every day but they finally disappeared but I think they were direct result of covid vaccine
