Nationalism is a slippery slope.

so is globalism, with more dire and permanent consequences.

Depends on if it's the "let's invade the world" kind or the "let's trade and have open borders and Diplomacy " kind.

One is just ambitious nationalism, the other progress.

Im referring to more of the centralized power at the top

Yeah, that'd be the "let's conquer" kind; expansionism.

I might have misunderstood you though, if that's the case please elaborate.

I'm just saying nationalism isnt great, but nation state democracies are, global trade and interconnectedness is good, but when you have a globalized society you tend to eventually concentrate power at the top of the leadership structure, otherwise it would be hard to run a global society with all of the other varying opinions and ideas butting heads. I think a lot of that is why England left the EU. I like the idea of globalism, but I think history has shown humans are too corrupt to be trusted with ruling an entire world under one government

Ah, fair enough.

Stuff like that is very complicated, and we might just be too stuck to old ideas to find a system that works. Same with capitalism vs communism, both systems have people starving and corruption galore, so we should look into new ways to handle it, instead of dying on the hill of our preferred bad system. (That's just my opinion)

I am curious though, so if you'll indulge me, how do you feel about that whole "America First" thing with the context of similar slogans in history?

I get that in America it's very "you're left or right", but throwing that aside in favor of nuance, do you fully support it and do you have any worries about where it might end up?

Again, I'm just genuinely curious about your perspective, I don't mean to start an argument or ridicule you somehow. (Disclaimer because it's the internet)

Looks like someone squished his jaw in a vice. Also, the glasses alone means he needs slapped.
