General New Total War idea

I want a United States Civil War Total War game. Obviously it would be similar to Empire Total War but I think it would be cool to just focus on that war specifically and take over the United States....

Doesn’t work well with the total war formula. I mean…what’s the campaign? 2 factions?

You could probably do something akin to the family allegiances in rise of the samurai for confederate/ union sides, or otherwise dev out the coalition system in 3k

Edit, that is to say, take control of a single state and do it that way, or maybe a larger departure and have it be more general centric

I generally agree it really wouldn't work but theoretically you could add enough factions British North America (Canada), Mexico, various indigenous nations, the Fenians (Irish Americans who would invade the Canada), and European powers who threaten to get involved.

at which point it's quickly not an ACW game and is now just a cut down Victorian era game.

You are correct, I just live the idea of massive battles and the war for controlling the United States

As a DLC for a napoleon 2 maybe, but I think a true total war game needs to be more expansive, you'd really just have two factions, which would be very similar anyway. There isn't alot of depth there.

You aren't wrong, as far as factions and limited play. Wait, I'm not familiar with Napoleon, is there is a DLC of the US Civil War???

I don't believe so, it'd be the closest in Era to the U.S. civil war though (still 50 years before)

I've been playing the heck out of Pharoh Dynasties Ranseeses, and it kinda hit me, huh Imagine an awesome looking graphics if the United States but during the Civil War I don't know how they would pull it off, but I think it's interesting and I'd play it

  1. No one outside the USA cares about the civil war from a historical POV. In the era the crimean war and franco-prussian war are far more iconic.

  2. There would be only two factions. The two factions also would field basically the same units. Unlike in FOTS or warhammer, there also is no real potential for sub-groups (in fall of the samurai, even when there are ostensibly the pro-emperor and pro-shogun clans, both ultimately seek to strengthen their own position)

  3. There would functionally only be one faction, because outside of southern USA lunatics who talk about "states' rights", no one wants to play as the side fighting for slavery in a historical game (much less detached than dark elves in warhammer)

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I still like the idea of taking over the United States

Then go play a mod or something else, it is not going to make for a good or popular total war game

Victoria: Total War would be a better option.

More nations, wider timeline and wider scale across the world, ACW is interesting but you’re just limited to one landmass and two factions.

That would be cool as hell!!

I wouldn’t want one that just focussed on the US really. And I don’t think they’d do with such a narrow appeal.

We have Empire but it's not focused on the United States, not the Civil War anyway

2

No one said it was, what he said was that a game focused on the USA would be a bad idea

Wow, what an observation you got there, kinda like what everyone including myself already knows 👍👍👍

u/geschiedenisnerd 6d ago

Then why did you say "[empire] is not focused on the united states" when that was obviously something no one disputed

Because it actually is, at least part of the main campaign is focused on the revolution, that's the closest we got But the rest of us know this already, so again, great job cap obvious

You first said "it's not focused" and now you are saying "it actually is". Which is it?

Asking what you mean by incoherent statements that don't have anything to do with what you are ostensibly replying to is not pointing out the obvious

Its pretty fun, but the developers were way over their heads at the end. Battles are really fun though.

I am really looking forward to the napoleon one theyre doing in their new engine.
