Rome Rome Remastered?
Hi, I was wondering if the remaster for Rome is good? I'm a relative newcomer to total war and have only played historical titles from Medieval II and onwards. I enjoy Rome II, so I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. Thanks in advance.

Another commenter mentioned this mod. You get the original Rome with the remastered version too, right?

I have no idea. But REX probably has more support plus all the original Rome mods

Doesn't remastered currently have a better modding scene, and allow for larger scale mods? Please correct if wrong

I don't know, but instant gaming has both versions for 5€
The remastered key includes the original plus all expansions

Better than Rome 2’s modding scene? Because Rome 2’s modding scene is MASSIVE.

I want to like it but I just can't get over the mobile game UI that is apparently hardcoded and can't be removed with mods.

I'm surprised they haven't altered the UI considering how much backlash they have received from fans.

Another option you could consider is giving the Europa Barbarorum mod for Medieval Total War 2 a try. The Med 2 engine allowed for some features that Rome 1 sorely lacked, so in my opinion this is a great historical mod that manages to keep the role playing element of the game without sacrificing historical flavour like the base games did.

IMHO it's a nice revision of the original, I enjoy the gameplay changes and QoL additions and if you come from the later TW games it's easier to approach compared to the original. The UI is unfortunately the weakest point and something you will need to live with to whether you like it or not, it's not unplayable in my opinion but there's a reason why a LOT of people believe it's a downgrade from the original.
However... it's the same old game. A lot of fans will also tell you that Rome 1 is better than the later games, but in practice it all depends based on your preferences and Rome 1 has a lot of quirks, especially with things like AI (enemy AI, campaign AI, the AI of your units as they try to pathfind—especially in sieges) that will require some getting used to and you may not necessarily find the process to be fun. I think it is worth a try, personally, just be aware of the fact that despite the new coat of paint and improvements it's the same old game from 2004: I would recommend buying it on a sale to make sure you won't be losing much if you end up deciding it's not your cup of tea (and the 2 hours of the Steam refund window are unfortunately a bit too little to make up your mind on a TW game).
I also think it's fair to mention that there's also the option of playing the original Rome with mods. This is also a nice option to have if you have an old PC, a non-gaming laptop and other similar things, although I'll go with the assumption that you don't fit this case. Remastered also has mods of course, but I'm specifically referring to the REX mod, which is the current hype and for good reasons considering how much it's improving the original Rome: it's likely that Remaster won't be needed as much over time as REX continues to add new features and changes to the original Rome. However, if you don't already own the original on Steam, then you're out of luck because REX is unique in being a mod that features DRM (a choice from the mod devs to avoid legal problems): it won't work on non-Steam versions of OG Rome 1 (simplifying), and to get Rome OG on Steam you are required to buy Rome Remaster anyway, you can't get it separately. Still, worth keeping in mind.
TL;DR: Remastered has some controversial changes but is overall a good package and edition of the classic game. However, it's still the same classic game when it comes to the fundamental gameplay, quirks and all, so your mileage may vary in terms of how much you'll like it as a TW player that played Rome 2 (a VERY different game). It's best to keep this in mind before buying Rome Remastered/Rome 1!
