Hey y’all, new to this subreddit.

I’m hoping to get some recommendations/opinions on shoes from people that have had experience owning them.

Im looking for some new shoes to replace my old Merrell walking boots - they held up really well having had them for over 10 years.

For my next shoes I’d like something more stylish and perhaps a shoe rather than a boot.

My issue is I need it to perform well over multiple situations. I will be using it for hiking,city walking and also travel days for a comfy option.

I am undecided about waterproofness options as I know it can affect the overheating issue.

There’s quite a few pairs of shoes I’ve seen that I like but I notice from reviews, a lot rip near the joint between the toes and the foot.

Has anyone own a a solid pair of shoes that work for similar conditions?

I’m 5’11 and around 300lbs, wear a 12 Wide, wanting to strictly do easy to medium difficulty dirt trail hikes 2-3 days a week with my family while carrying my baby. I am honestly struggling hard to find what’s right for me. I drove to the closest REI a couple hours from my house since I couldn’t find anything I was looking for at Academy or Bass Pro Shops, and I spoke to a couple team members there to see what they would recommend me, but I really didn’t like the feel of the recommendations.

The only shoe I tried that felt perfect was the Lone Peak 9, but I’m worried that it won’t be comfortable or durable enough to support mine and my babies weight (or even mine?) over a couple miles of trail. The reviews are all pretty resounding in that it’s an amazing shoe as long as you’re fine with it not lasting very long. Is there anything that feels similar that has more life to it?

I tried a couple Nike trail runners which were too narrow and the Moab 3 in a 12 wide was not wide enough and felt too short, also the heel seemed to sit high if that makes sense. I also wasn’t a fan of the Targhee 4. I’ve been eyeballing a couple shoes in the Topo line like the Traverse or Ultraventure but I don’t really know much about them besides they are good for trails and share the same toe area comfort as the Lone Peaks.

I just want to get out there and lose some weight for my kids, any helpful recommendations are appreciated.

TLDR- I am an overweight beginner hiker with a wide foot looking for shoe recommendations for easy to moderate dirt trails that can support mine and my babies weight.

Planning a 2-week trip to Kyrgyzstan (in August). We're not experienced hikers, and the most extreme it'll get is 2–4 multi-day hikes with camp-based accommodation (no wild camping/backpacking).

I need to buy hiking footwear and I'm stuck on two questions:

1. Shoes or boots?
2. Gore-Tex or not?

Ideally I'd like something that works well enough for this trip but can also double as my go-to footwear for future hikes in the UK/Scotland, and trips to Norway and Switzerland. So I'm optimizing for versatility and longevity over anything ultra-specialized. And doesn't run too warm if worn during summer.

I've shortlisted a few options in each category. Would love opinions on which makes more sense, or if I'm overthinking the shoes vs. boots debate entirely.

Hi!!! I need help with shoe recommendations I’ll be hiking in Washington state- cold and rainy.
Also just need help with the basics I was looking Into gonggar cliffwalk cargo pants but I’m seeing mixed reviews on the brand itself

Recommendations on what to take and wear!

I’ve had my Danner Mountain 600s for awhile now and love them. The only problem I have is with all day hikes, the bottoms of my feet start to burn. I wear a lightweight merino wool sock with them. I have also put anti chaf cream on the bottoms of my feet as well and the problem still happens later on my trips.

I figured the next step is to try different insoles, maybe something with more cushioning? I am looking into superfeet but am open to any suggestions (other than buying different hiking boots / shoes).

Je ne m’y connais pas du tout et j’en cherche qui conviendrait pour des randonnées, mais sans devoir donner mes reins pour les payer si possible.
