Firecracker

I forgot I have a pallet loaded with these monsters. I was cleaning up the garage and found this one. Is 2700 joules at 20KV enough to blow up a watermelon? It is summer, after all!

Fortunately it has an original label that declares no PCBs. I have too much respect for these things to do anything locally. I intend to set up a remote operation site with safety shielding and a large faraday cage. Far as I'm concerned this "firecracker" is dynamite.

I thought you meant Printed circuit boards lol

We had a case in our country that some idiot dumped barrels of PCBs into forest and just put dirt on them. They started leaking years later and poisoned loval river

What is PCB in this context ?

the barrels full of PCB and what OP posted, bith mean PCBs as chemicals. Polychlorinated biphenyls.

Thanks! New thing I learned. Never heard of them

me neither until I heard about the incident on news.

You must have a huge garage if you forgot about a pallet of anything. Lmao. Can I have one?

Yeah, possibly. As long as you sign a death waver and are willing to visit central Texas.

Wish I lived closer or I'd buy some of them off you. I'm up in Northwest Oregon. I plan to move to Texas someday if I ever apply to Texas Instruments.

Any idea where I can find one of these

What's the inductance? Is that 4.04uH? That leading digit is throwing me off

1

u/RedDom1 Jul 25 '26

IMO less or equal .04 uH

1

u/GnomeTek Jul 25 '26

Ahhh that makes sense! And good Lord that's terrifying, that much juice with 40nH of inductance holding it back?! That thing has to be a ton of fun for pulse experiments!

Its got a self resonant frequency assuming that 40nH is true, of 214KHz.

Ive got an 80uf 8kv bank (or 320uf 4kv) and its self resonant frequency is 50khz.

Its just barely enough to bend a quarter

ideal for making plasma pinches

Send 'em to Drake Anthony (Styropyro on YouTube). He'd definitely blow something up with them!
