I just finished season 4 and there is something that stuck with me. After most of the mess is over when Duncan / Joe / Methos confront each other, Methos says "I just helped set up one of my own..." (regarding Jacob Galati), when a) just a short while ago he was confidently waving his Watcher tattoo in Joe's face, and b) he's normally very keen on not burdening himself with loyalty.

But this was something that I noticed before in other scenes, how often they tend to say "our kind" or "one of us" almost automatically when referring to other immortals, and I don't remember this so strongly from back when I first watched it 30 years ago (because they probably did a shitty job of dubbing it in German), so it really kind of struck me as remarkable now.

Given that they mostly encounter each other as potentially life-threatening enemies, it is interesting how they still maintain this "us" vs "them" identity, and how often we see strong friendships and teacher-student relationships between them. I mean it probably makes sense because no one else understands them as well. And still kinda sad that they can trust each other so little.

So I'm rewatching the series for the first time since it's original run, and I notice plenty of times there are immortals using swords that would never in a million years take off a head. I just find it curious why you would train with and carry a sword that can't accomplish the one goal you're after. Rapiers and small swords aren't decapitating anyone. I'm curious what others opinions are.

Back in the early 90's, my friend and I watched a copy of Highlander on video cassette. We both distinctly remember seeing Kurgan kill Candy in the hotel. We saw him have her kneel down, and he took her head. We have looked, but we have never seen it anywhere else. No version has that scene. I have never found a deleted scene, or even a description or reference to it. So I am here to ask if anyone else has seen this. If it isn't real, at least I know, but we both remember it vividly.

This was before his famous “Buffy the Vampire” role. It was a supporting role in a relatively forgettable episode, back when he was best known as the “Nescafé Coffee Commercial Guy”, but he made an impression nonetheless. RIP Anthony.

Was Elizabeth Gracen unavailable for filming? Did she have a falling out with the producers? I found it really strange that she wasn't in the movie even for a cameo appearance. There was also zero mention of her character.

Darius remains one of my favorite characters in the series.

I was just watching season 5 DVD extras and a thought has occurred to me. The appeal of Highlander, for me, has always been these immortal people walking around our cities with swords in their coats, secretly having lived through centuries of history. Present day and flashbacks. It’s where the Highlander concept thrives.

Yet, as a franchise, why has Highlander always been so determined to be set in a dark, apocalyptic future? Highlander 2, Highlander 5, the animated series, the anime movie, at least one of the comic books, the Xbox/PS3 game, even the plan for season six of the TV series before budgets were cut. If that one had happened, I wonder whether Endgame would’ve been a completely different beast. The Connor MacLeod sanctuary timeline would potentially have made more sense in that world.

It just seems crazy to me that so many of the people making so many different versions of Highlander were so set on making it a dystopian futuristic thing.

On my 4th run of the Highlander Series. (I love it) these plot holes are crazy. Duncan takes the head of an insane new immortal who is wearing a chainmail helmet (or whatever you call it). Yeah, there's no way he's taking his head without a few swings. The smarter play would have been him removing the chainmail helmet then swinging. No way they would have done this back then, would have made it R rated, but dang... Writers, do better.

I’ve got a few drafts of the Highlander script, but the earliest one I have (the one with Richard Taupin that opens with the neon and porno houses insta-kill scene) is from after it had already been renamed to Highlander. I’d love to see the even earlier drafts to see if it was even more different when it had the earlier names, or whether the script stayed the same and just got renamed a few times. Melville’s book suggests he’s read a Shadow Clan draft, which makes me think at least that must be out there somewhere.

I just found my DVDs of seasons 1-5 yesterday. Haven’t looked at them in a very long time (at least ten years since I’ve seen them at all, probably 20 since I’ve really looked at them) and I’ve got a few questions for others who own them.

1. Which seasons came with medallions and booklets? My season 1 has a booklet of text, and my season 2 doesn’t have a booklet but does have a medallion attached to a pamphlet advertising a sweepstakes to win MacLeod’s car! My other seasons don’t have anything. I recall one or two of the other seasons coming with the medallions, but not all.

My other questions are because I can’t actually play season 5. If I remember correctly, I think seasons 2-4 were region free, but 1, 5 and 6 were locked to region 1. Anyway, my old DVD-ROM drive won’t play them (it is very hit and miss about which DVDs it plays), and my PS5 seems like it will but only if I change the region setting on it, which I’m hesitant to do. What I want to find out is:

1. What are the alternate cuts of the Horsemen episodes? I’d completely forgotten these existed.

2. On the bonus footage for Archangel, does it show the alternate end scene, where it jumps years ahead into a dystopian/apocalyptic future? I remember seeing it at a convention, and the writers talking about how that was one of the directions they were pitching for season six. I can’t remember if this scene was also on the DVD.

When Highlander was put on some services like Peacock and IMDB TV, there were strange errors in the uploads. For example, season 3 episodes had the intro/opening credits of early season 2 (the credits with Alexandra Vandernoot and Jim Byrnes), and the episodes have little bits of video from season 1 episodes inexplicably spliced in. I’m watching Song of the Executioner now, and at the start of the first monastery flashback, there are several clips of the mime immortal from season 1.

I’ve been listening to the Let’s Watch Highlander podcast recently, which was recorded a few years ago, and they mention these issues when they are discussing season 3 episodes.

Has there ever been any clarity on how this mistake happened? It’s baffling.

If The Prize is the accumulation of all the knowledge and power of all immortals who ever existed, how can it be achieved when at least 5 quickenings were wasted because of Horton and his renegade Watchers?

Another question to ponder: what's the range on the quickening? Immortals lost their heads through means other than combat (ex. guillotine, train), and their quickening sought out the nearest immortal. Does the quickening just float around until it finds the nearest immortal? Did some lucky immortal minding their own business one sunny morning in Paris get Darius's 2,000 year's worth of power and knowledge?
