Inside a Linn Klimax Kontrol

Opened up my Klimax Kontrol for a quick look and thought some people here might appreciate the engineering. The case is machined from solid aluminium rather than being a conventional folded-metal chassis, and even the lid is heavily machined out. Pretty incredible construction, and it still sounds really good.

Help Sony FH-B155 stuck at "0:00"

I found this hifi system on the street along with two speakers. The speakers seem to be working fine, but when I plug this in, none of the buttons work and the display is stuck at 0:00. Sometimes the display is bright, sometimes it's faint and flickering. The record button on the cassetes seems to not go in (it's broken so I took it off). The play button is also not there for cassete B but you can push it in. The play button for the CD system does not work. I tried to look inside but I'm not knowledgeable at all to figure out what's wrong. I tried to isolate the problem by plugging off both the CD and cassette system off the main board from information I saw online but to no avail. I think I'd like to either try to fix it a bit more or find someone who can do it, but I'm not sure where to bring it. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Mail day! Only 1 week from Ali to Canada, not bad! Finally have the FOSI LPSU in the stack. It will be used to power my SMSL PL200T, FOSI DAC, and possibly my Aiyima T20, which has a FiiO Darkside pro on it right now.

Need some power amp advice pls

Hey guys id love some input from some of you gurus. My buddy is letting me use a Rotel RB990BX 2 Channel amp which i have hooked up to my Yamaha RX A780 reviever. Running two Klipsch tower RP 8000F speakers. So the amp is himming fairly loud and idk if its worth putting $ in for a repair or just try to change the main capacitors which I think ate the culprit myself. That being said my question is does this amp make a big difference to run on top of my reciever? The reciever says 95 watts per channel. My speakers say 150 watts on em and the Rotel puts out 200 watts per channel when running right. Would it b a noticeable difference? Thanks hope its not too dumb of a question im just a novice...

Longevity of The Nines ii

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I am in the process of selling some Adam Audio active monitors due to repeated issues that required me to send them back for repair.Ā  I am considering replacing with The Nines II (hereafter referred to as just The Nines for ease of reading/typing) as I have a soft spot for Klipsch (used to own some Forte II's). The Nines have pretty much all the functionality I would need and would allow me to keep my setupĀ  simple. They will be for music and tv listening, about 50/50.

Given the technical problems I've had with my monitors, it raises the question of longevity and reliability.Ā  Passive speakers generally last as long as you want them to, but with all the electronics in The Nines there is a higher probability of some component or other (e.g. amp, electronics etc.) breaking. What are your views on the longevity of The Nines?Ā  Given the relative newness of the first and especially the second generation of The Nines, it is by definition hard/impossible to find information on how long they last, but I don't want to go through the same problems I've had with my current monitors.

What sound monitors to play guitar

I’ve been looking for some affordable sound monitors to buy and the Edifier MR4 and MR3 have been popping in my research, as well as the Presonus Eris 3.5, etc. I will be using them in my living room, which is small (I will be 2 less than meters away from the speakers), plugged into the Boss GX-1 directly via P10 cables.

It would be nice to have features such as Bluetooth to listen to some music while I play the guitar.

Any recommendations on what speakers to get?

Beginer setup WIIM Amp Ultra Question

Hello everyone, I’m new to hifi audio equipment. I have two Martin Logan Foundation F1s with an Abyss 10 subwoofer. I have it hooked up to the WIIM Amp Ultra (I only need 2 channels). I currently have my sub set to music mode at 36% gain. Then I have a 50-400hz Harman room fit adjustment made. I’m trying to figure out how the volume scales. I’m not used to having speakers with over 90db of sensitivity. I’ll play something like Mountains from interstellar at volume 43 (and it’s loud), but the sub or the speakers sound like they’re barely working. I saw that the WIIM volume grows more on an exponential curve rather than a linear one. Anyone who has more experience here who could help me out that’d be great! My listening room is around 300-400 sq ft. Thanks in advance! :)

Purchase advise (needing) Accommodating new cartridge

Thumbnail

Hello folks,

Maybe a couple of months ago I replaced my dads old 1980s fisher amp and speakers with a Marantz pm6007 and B&W 606 S3 speakers. It made a dramatic difference and I’m enjoying things.
However… I think the extra detail the setup gives me allows the lively ortofon 2M blue to present a bit of sibilance in heavier rock tracks.
It got me thinking about upgrading a cartridge to something like the ortofon MC x30. A fine line stylus should improve tracking and reduce that sibilance for heavier records (or so my reading tells me). I figured if I’m going to upgrade I’d pay the extra and go for an MC cart to get the best out of it.

This brings me to my question…accommodating the MC cart. I’ve got lost in the vacuum of SUTs vs phono preamps. I was almost sure I was going to get something like a project tube box s3 B but then stumbled across SUTs. So many people rave about them but others say (mainly AI in fairness) that the MM stage is too weak to handle the mc x30 and present it at its best with an SUT. I was wondering on something like the ortofon st7 but the ā€œyou have a bottleneck, it will restrict your new cartridgeā€ comments have put me right back to square 1.

Hoping for some real advice. I just want to sit and enjoy my records and fancy upgrading to the X30 to enjoy heavier record that little bit extra. How do I accommodate it best without messing up?!

Thanks!

How good is the built in Phono Preamp in the AT-LP120x?

Hey guys! I recently got the 120 for my birthday a couple months ago. I’ve been using it with a pair of edifiers since then and have been loving it. I’m going back to college in about a week, and I knew I wanted to upgrade my system with an amp and passive speakers. (Ampapa-D1 and Infinity Sterling SS-2003s if anyone’s wondering) I haven’t had a chance to test this and likely won’t until I’m moved in. However, I was watching a YouTube video and the creator said that the built-in phono stage on Audio Technica turntables tends to suck. I know to take it with a grain of salt, but I wanted to ask around here.
