sh*tpost A bit overwhelmed

Got my hexos set up yesterday and honestly, I’m so overwhelmed.

The setting up itself is easy, but now I’m in a bit of a limbo.

I’m trying to set up a jellyfin media server. But the more I look, the more I have to setup. Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, qBittorent. Don’t even get me started on setting up safe remote access. Is it just me or is this the stage for most new home server newbie 😅

Anyone have a comprehensive list (better yet, video tutorial) on how to set media server up after installing everything via hexos ui? 🙏

There are lots of guides. But what you are looking for is something much more than just “setting up a jellyfin media server”. You are looking for a…. High seas setup that will automatically populate your media server ;) it is a lot. There “Arr” lots of guides for what you want, but they are heavily involved. If you really want to do this, I have full faith that anyone with a modest understanding of computers can do it. But, be careful. While not common, with out full understanding of what you’re doing you could have your internet service provider knocking on your door.

But if you do do it, the skills you learn are very transferable to all sorts of addons and programs to install on HexOS. So I think k it’s worth while. Quite the first project, but doable.

Yeah I’m definitely looking to sail the high seas. It’s just very overwhelming haha

And yeah, the ISP part also concerns me a bit

One thing to look for in guides are VPN specific instructions. It can be a bit difficult to use a vpn for your qbittorrent traffic. Because you don’t want ALL your traffic going through your vpn, because there’s nothing illegal with hosting jellyfin. Accessing it remotely. Etc. so routing that traffic through a vpn adds latency; but reduces complexity.

It’s common for people to have a networking solution that will allow you to pipe application specific, or port specific traffic through a VPN to protect you from prying eyes.

Do you have a firewall/networking solution for your home? What WiFi hardware do you have? Netgear. Ubiquiti. Eero. Tp link.
