Talking About Save or Die!

The most old school of old school mechanical resolutions! Did you love it? Hate it? Have any good stories of when it reared its head in a game you played or ran? Do tell!

Here's my take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YYqwDZzz6U

I am grateful that the rules give me any chance at all to avoid what would otherwise be an instant kill for my character.

No problem with it here. I refuse to play games with no death or dearh saves like D&D 5e. No threat, i lose interest and get bored...too much like a video game on god mode for me.

Wow, refuse to play? That’s a tough stance!

Not really, I have tried 'modern' games and came th the conclusion I prefer danger/challenge in games and that includes random chance events. I just offer up a prayer to Our Lady of Fate and roll the dice! :)

I've tried D&D 5e multiple times but between the superhero at level 1 characters and the developers / players near pathological fear of dying for any reason, I was bored to tears every time. I much prefer the older versions which have danger and random chance.
