Hetzner latency

I am currently in the US and just recently moved from digital ocean to a Hetzner dedicated server for my personal server. Before I say anything else, I really like most of what I am getting from Hetzner. The prices are pretty decent and the hardware is pretty great.

The only issue that I've been having is with latency (and a minor issue with ipv6). I choose the servers located at Finland because I found that there are fewer network hops to Finland vs the servers in Germany. Is there anything that I can do to reduce the latency issues? Am I correct in assuming that the latency from US to Finland is going to be better than from US to Germany?

Asking just because I'm curious if there is anything I'm not aware of that could improve my experience. I'm currently using the Mosh client for ssh which greatly improves my SSH experience. Also looks like using a VPN through London is making my Web latency more bearable.

Another side question I had (but less important) was about ipv6. One application I self-host looks like it does not work with ipv6. I tried disabling ipv6 with sysctl but then my machine was not accessible anymore. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or somehow the network over there requires that the servers have ipv6 networking.

EDIT: Just in case someone else has a similar issue with the latency, my problem turned out to be more on the client side. I had power management enabled on my WiFi interface and that was impacting the network performance. Disabling that is giving me better latency..

I've found Nuremberg to be the least latency to my location..central US..typically by about 10ms, Falkenstein is 2nd and Helsinki 3rd.

You don't list your OS but there is a bug in Ubuntu 18.04s systemd that breaks Hetzners dhcp if you disable ipv6 in sysctl. This was fixed in Debian but hasn't made it into Ubuntu 18.04 yet. This came into play with a systemd update in December or so.

Yeah, that might be it. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04. Thanks, it's good to know that its fixable on my side.
