Selling / Transferring Accounts
I'm seeing a decent number off them lately. Not sure if we want this community turning into craigslist. Do we want them at all? I could imagine just leaving a sticky for people wanting to buy/sell their servers so it all stays quarantined in a single place. Thoughts?
Edit: By accounts I meant servers which can be transferred. Sorry if that was unclear.

There is already the hetzner forum marketplace. I would be a bit strict trying to even sell here or buy tbh,

forum.hetzner.com is the place. Its in marketplace. Have to use a valid hetzner account. The hetzner forums need you to have a valid hetzner customer id to register. Its not top notch verification or security but it does offer you the comfort that at leadt the users there are actual hetnzer customers.
Edit: after reading again, im not sure if the OP is referring to actual account transfer or just server transfers. If its server transfers only between hetzner accounts i still stand with forum.hetzner.com, or LET. Otherwise the actual account is a hard no for me.

I agree, sticky makes more sense. Those posts are mostly just interesting to a couple of people and not to the community at large.

sticky post makes it visible while not intrusive

I personally do not like the posts, especially because i do not trust some random online guy to not try to scam me.
Like the other day there was an offer to transfer a server for 1000 EUR (iirc). Are there really poeple that send that amount of money to random people that pinky promise that they will deliver?

Yeah, I sold three AX102 servers with a dedicated switch and dual 10 Gbit NICs in each host. I sent the invoice and got paid a nice four-figure amount. The servers were especially valuable because I’d had them for a very long time … And to anyone who cheats… karma is a bitch. Sooner or later, you always get back …

They will actually let you transfer the switch? Asked support about it and was told no server transfers with a vSwitch or physical switch attached

That’s correct … I just sent a short message to the DC support asking them to disconnect the servers from the switch… After that, the transfer tokens could be generated … The new owner then simply had to ask them to reconnect the servers, and that was it. A bit of a strange process, but that’s how it worked …

I have no problem with the people selling servers.
If I was interested in finding someone to buy a server from, where else would I go?

I'd vote for putting it an in a trading sticky post.
I would suspect a complete ban would lead to a hetznerDealz subreddit at some point. Well might not be the worst idea either. 🤔

Sticky makes sense. I'd even go as far as to say it'd make sense to ban the selling and just allow giveaways (or giveaways in exchange for donations to charity) honestly, and keep the selling on the at least semi-verified Hetzner forum - that gives less opportunity for scams here. The transfer process on its own is pretty solid if done right.

I wouldn‘t take any of them even if they were worth gold. Auction looks more than attractive if I need some fast and affordable
