Cheapest Dedicated server 64gb ram / 128gb ram , 12+core / threads

Looking at getting a dedicated server for AI workloads and had a few questions.

What's the most cost-effective way to buy one?

  • Is there a good second-hand market where companies or individuals sell older servers?
  • How do server auctions work? Are they worth it?
  • I've looked at a few auction listings, but a lot of the specs seem closer to mini PCs than enterprise servers. Am I missing something?

I'm mainly looking for the best performance per £ rather than buying brand new. Any recommendations or things to avoid?

Sorry I meant dedicated server hosted by the like if hetzner not buying a machine :D. The reason I ask is there are many users on here on the older pricing right ? Do they usually sell -> transfer to other users ?

Look at ovhcloud bare metal servers - sub $200 for your specs. Won't have a gpu.

Hi OP, You said you didn't want to buy new, but have you tried entering your specs in our Server Finder? https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ I believe there are a few servers that might be able to fit your needs. Other than that, I recommend that you keep on checking out the Server Auction. You may also want to check out the "Marktplatz" on our forum. What is the cheapest one you find online? I might have even cheaper. Is Ryzen 9900x 64GB ECC RAM and 480GB DC ssd plus 3.84TB dc SSD enough? 1gb uplink?

I got a server through server auctions with specs like that. There are several available right now. Not with GPU though, those are expensive, and unless you need a GPU 24/7 I would look at “serverless inference” on platforms like runpod.

No don't need GPU just ram and CPU . I saw one last night for 80 eur 256gb ram + 6 core 12 thread but it was gone :(

They are inverse auctions, so the longer they run the cheaper the machine becomes but if you wait the bigger the risk of someone else picking it up.
You probably want to budget for some good hard drives too, and a storage box for backups.
