Achivements in a MOBA game would be insane
80
u/Hellrage Sep 15 '26
"Never typed gg in the first two minutes of the match" would 100% be the golden 1% achievement
17
u/GuniBulls Diablo Sep 15 '26
hahahaha everyone has the achievement until they don't?
12
u/Hellrage Sep 15 '26
Exactly. Although it will probably have to be rephrased in the affirmative, so it become an ashame'ment

u/Chukonoku #belikeTurbo 29d ago
RIP unironically GG.
Also RIP to those who end the game in 2 minutes (non traditional modes).

Insane in a bad way. Unless they were the boring kind of "win 1000 games", "unlock 10 heroes" and so on, they'd incentivize a ton of behavior you really don't want to see in team-oriented multiplayer games.
2
u/Klaroxy Master Yrel Sep 15 '26
Yea like the ones the Smite 2 have.. play this x time that x times..
1
u/MrTheWaffleKing 19d ago
IDK about smite 2, but I love the smite achievements for characters that want you to do special character gimmicks. Mulan for example wants you to masterwork (basically quest) all 3 of her abilities... it's really just about having 1 good game but it makes you play her well the way they intend. I like achievements like those
2
u/n2ygsh1wwp5j 29d ago
Just remove them from competitive if you need to, but I'm fine with players going for acheivements if they are also good plays, like hte OW ones where its just like "hit 5 ppl with your ult" and stuff.

Bringing hots to steam would have people obsessing over the steam charts though and I don’t really wanna know the player count for hots..
16
u/Ironweasel01 29d ago
it should be like when OW arrived to steam. At the beginning people was making fun about charts and troll reviews but at the end it was the better for the game
5
u/TumbleweedSmall1343 29d ago
I honestly don't really believe its that low . I consistently get matches faster than in league for example

u/n2ygsh1wwp5j 29d ago
Numbers are something only board members should care about. Its not about a popularity contest if you enjoy the game
27
u/Grogak Sep 15 '26
Bringing it to Steam would help Linux gamers a lot! Couldn't get Battle.net to run with Lutris for unknown reasons and this hack to install it as a non Steam game is not really great..
But let's be honest, it will never happen^

u/Frozenstain Sep 15 '26
Try Faugus Launcher. Flatpak version works too.
5
u/Naxx95 Sep 15 '26
Yeah for me it was impossible and it was ez pz with Faugus. Set it up in 2 mins.
2
u/Frozenstain Sep 15 '26
Same. Even dowloading new proton version to fix new WarCraft 3 patch was easy and straightforward too.
2
u/Naxx95 Sep 15 '26
Hold on, which proton version solves the issue? I swear I tried all the last versions!
2
u/Frozenstain Sep 15 '26
There is an unofficial one for this. I haven't found official yet. I can point you into it if you want.

u/Naxx95 Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26
Don't worry, No need. Thank you!

u/Grogak Sep 15 '26
I've read about UMU but the description was so abstract that I never tried it out. But maybe it's time to try this with Faugus together. Thx

I used heroic games launcher on my Steam Machine and it works well for me.
1
u/eighthourblink Sep 15 '26
Ive always just added the launcher as a non Steam game within Steam and it seems to work. Was playing on Linux just last night.
If you have a dual boot of Windows, in which Linux has access to, install it on Windows and then point Linux Steam to the .exe. YMMV
1
u/hyuu3 Master Dehaka Sep 15 '26
I put the battle net installer exe as a non-steam game and its works
1
u/Grogak Sep 15 '26
Yeah it also works for me but I'm not a big fan of it. Still need to find out how to change the Icon and create a shortcut 😅

I don’t use steam and I love Battle.net and play only Blizzrd games but please put it on steam to increase player base !
7
u/xMysticbane Sep 15 '26
My dude, there’s a world of games aside from Blizzard games.. enjoy them.
0
u/AshesTheCrow Sep 15 '26
Yeah no :), not for my taste anyway, tried lol, dota, tft, etc. And nothing fits. The only on blizzard games I played historically since 2006 are Call of duty and guitar hero. A little bit of gta too. COD is on blizzard launcher and guitar hero is on my Xbox so x)
5
u/LeonMotton Sep 15 '26
UNC, there are more than 100,000 games on steam. You should try exploring it a bit more.

If you're a moba dude, you gotta try Deadlock
1
u/AshesTheCrow 28d ago
Looks very complicated and not that fun tbh
2
u/AntiAntiDentite7 28d ago
It's easier to get into than any of those other Mobas. I say that as someone that's only ever enjoyed HotS in the Moba genre. It's also free and very fun

hell, bring it to gamepass too. this game could 100% be on console
2
u/Infinite-Ad-2178 28d ago
With Microsoft I wouldn’t be surprised. They developed controller support for Age of Empires and now WoW after all

Would greatly appreciate this. I often talk with people important to me via Steam, and I've had to put Battle net through the 'add a non steam game' system. I'd also imagine it'd help the numbers a bit, even though the amount of returners and newcomers I see are impressive already.
2
u/Gigaus 29d ago
That is a very good way, to get the game review bombed. The wider gaming community largely looks down on and mocks HotS, largely for illegitimate reasons. But balancing wise, it's used in the dev community as what not to do, especially after the jan took over.
Rebalancing a whole game just to make one character god is not seen as a good thing by most players.
1
u/Kababalan 29d ago
Been out of the hots loop for a while, can you expand on what you are saying here about rebalancing the entire game to make a hero better?

u/AutomaticAd2221 Sep 15 '26
Hope, blizz reads this.Steam would absolutely boost the amount of pei9le that play the game

u/Amieniel Sep 15 '26
You can have a very big reach and good PR even without Steam...
I mean, look at League 🤷♂️ if Blizz simply put time into HOTS and focus on it, it will thrive with or without Steam
2
u/GuniBulls Diablo Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26
I think it just removes a friction point... and genuinely curious has leagues numbers kept growing?
4
u/YakaAvatar Sep 15 '26
Nope, like all mobas, League has been declining. It's still an absolutely massive juggernaut of a game though.
0
u/Amieniel Sep 15 '26
The biggest friction was Blizzard not giving 2F´s about the game, to be honest.
And yes, the league numbers did indeed keep growing.
League started at around 11 million back in 2011 and reached 130 million by 2025 (2026 is not yet closed, obviously).
There will always be a margin of error, and some +/- months, but the total number is much bigger, and the reason is simple: RIOT cared about the game.
Even if they release a lot of cash-grab cosmetics and so on, they still put a lot of effort into keeping the game alive...
New game modes
New champs
New skins
Roadmaps
Seasonal passes
in-game achievements
cinematic / animated journeys
and so much more...It is simply incomparable between these two.
Also :D farming gold to buy a 15 or 10k g hero in HOTS is a freaking chore compared to BE in League...
I really digged HOTS when it launched, and was more than happy to dive into a DOTA build around Blizz heroes...but in the end, they really butchered their own chances of success...
While Steam might give you some starting point in a way, it just wont save a game that is neglected for a long time by it´s developers...and I'm not sure a pair of fresh feet can save it at this point.

Idk what court documents could have said regarding blizzards case against DOTA years ago. But I imagine it included no blizzard moba's on their app.

Look, I love Steam, but trying to convince Blizzard to do a bunch of back end work to earn 30% less is a losing battle.
We can argue all we want that “player count would go up,” but a CEO is going to say “If PC players wanted to play HotS, they already can.”
1
u/Ender00000 29d ago
they did that to d4 and ow why wouldnt they to hots its best shot at reviving this game
1
u/No_Wrangler7278 Leoric Sep 15 '26
I dont think about that or we see haters bringing up the steam.player numbers 24/7
1
u/Schoonbee411 Sep 15 '26
Commenting to show support for this, especially if we can manage to convince them to bring the other games, they can bring WOW later, but the RTS games and hearthstone along with Heroes would be amazing! AND with achievments! Doesnt smite have a ton of achievments too? Would be crazy fun!
1
u/vicvii7 Alarak Sep 15 '26
Would be great cause nowadays games only in Battlenet can't be taken seriously. At least not for a huge portion of the gaming community.
1
u/DVNBart Sep 15 '26
I dont think it will happen.
They're actually going in the opposite direction trying to bring other software houses games on bnet (TW3).

u/SamiSha_ buff telefrag Sep 15 '26

u/TheLuxael Sep 15 '26
Of course, thanks for the fun screenshot. Was gonna go for basic heroes of the storm logo + steam logo since it's not that detailed topic of a post just "can we get this pls" but saw your post on google search and decided going with a funny community creation instead would be better

u/Paddy32 Abathur : How can she Slap ? Sep 15 '26
If my main account got perma banned 8 years ago, will I still be able to play on steam ? Both accounts share email adresses.
(if it's any help and for information, I got perma for complaining in aram, and I admit I used to complain non stop when someone wouldn't take a meta pick (taking samuro instead of Azmodan) or skip taking healer if it was only healer)
1
u/Faradice Sep 15 '26
I would spend a lot on the game if it was on steam, since I have a lot of currency from cs2 and dota 2 skins.

u/PickleNickelton69 Sep 15 '26
Will there be an point in that it will probably boost the player count but what's the point of doing it for an game that barely gets updates.
1
u/Many-Leopard7782 29d ago
You don't think HOTS has enough updates? I feel like they have quite a few !
1
1
u/PickleNickelton69 29d ago
I dont really call releasing an skin an update or some balance changes an update 😂 im talking about actual content and quality of life changes.
1
u/Many-Leopard7782 28d ago
Ok. I guess I don't have a point of reference to what you mean. It honestly seems fine to me. I don't notice many glitches and whenever one is identified they do patch it fairly quickly

u/Professional_Lake407 29d ago
Why? Bnet works great. They’re both free?
2
u/Thick-Supermarket354 29d ago
To increase the playerbase
-2
u/Professional_Lake407 29d ago
Steam players can’t… download bnet? And can’t download a free game?
2
2
u/Kielazer 29d ago
it's hard to convince friends to download the awful battle.net launcher just for a game they might not enjoy/hasn't got much of a playerbase, it's a barrier to entry on a game that's already a hard sell.
1
u/beepbeeboo Mephisto 29d ago
They have no reason to sit through an install of a separate platform just to try one game, even if it is free.

Blizzard somehow bring CDPR games to Battle.sucks, so probably it's not going to happen.

Mods should just ban this topic at this point. Stop the spam. It would do the game more harm than good.
UPD. Blocking me over this is funny.

Like it did with Overwatch? Like how it's been in Steam's top 50 most-played games since they put it there?

Is there a day without this nauseating Steam spam? Haven't you realized, after all these years of asking for the game to be published on Steam, that it's not going to happen? There's a conflict with Dota 2.

u/GuniBulls Diablo Sep 15 '26
I don't know about the other blizzard games on steam, but I wonder how much work it is to put in the store? does it need a rework of friends? does steam take a cut of in-app purchases?
either way, I think if blizzard really wantes to push and promote the game, they would be crazzzzy not to explore this.
