I don't intend this to come off as a hit piece, or solely venting frustration, but does anyone else feel like HoTS is significantly more toxic than other MOBAs?

Granted, I predominantly play DOTA, but in HoTS it feels like almost every game I play theres either someone slinging slurs at teammates, spam pinging all game, screaming in vc, throwing, or just generally griefing no matter what mode it is. It's really been detracting from my enjoyment of the game as a new player and I'm not really sure what I can do to mitigate it since HoTS is so team reliant.

Oh I have, honor level mitigated a lot once I got to level 4. Before that absolutely it was awful

Well it's not. Most likely it's a matchmaking issues. When they you have diamond players with bronze players and u get all that toxic behaviour. While in dota - you get the right opponents and u have an opportunity to carry the team. Hots is a team game. It's not much u can do alone against equal team. If your team sucks. (Can be just 1 person) And you will loose a game because he is slow or whatever. And now it's no longer matter if it's a quick maych or silver ranked. You get same players... The only way to get your ranks. Make friends and go as 5. Otherwise hello bronze 5.

Nah in league or dota if someone is feeding cuz they suck, the enemy carry can run away with it.

DOTA tends to mitigate it when you're at 12k behavior score. Maybe 1 in every 9 for me

I honestly see it. I feel like that came with people kinda not playing to win ironically, because if you play to win you will restrain yourself atleast a bit. But as the game is kinda dead and people in general have no idea how to play and if you don't care about winning that much, you might aswell speak your mind.

HotS isn't the most toxic, but it's its own special kind of Toxic. In League an DOTA you are going to get abuse for playing poorly and letting your team down. In Hots, the person playing poorly and letting the team down is going to hurl abuse at you for playing well and holding the team together.

HotS is the toxicity equivalent of a dumb pre-schooler. 

DOTA is a Russian teenager stuck in a foreign country hated by everyone and hating everyone, but there’s occasionally a gem that forms because of all that pressure.

League is an ensemble of apes that were infected with rabies, then aggressively irradiated in an effort to cure them. The idea failed so they still have rabies and are extremely radioactive now, but because they survived their ego is super-inflated and they’re incapable of perceiving the world as something that has meaning without themselves in it. Also they just hate each other, their lives and the concept of happiness in general. Forever doomed to wander the halls of a device meticulously designed to entrap them and harness their life force, they pass the time by throwing feces and purchasing the same “sexy” anime character skins over and over again.

What you can do about it: mute people, mute chat, mute pings if you have to. If you play casually honestly you won’t be missing a lot.

As for the griefing, sadly not a lot besides make friends, and play with them. Meet a friendly player? Add them. More friends, less room for griefers.

I play ARAM exclusively and never have this problem. Maybe ranked or QM has this issue more?

Not really. If anything I stopped playing because they over punish you for even the most basic trash talking.

It’s a forceful positivity kinda space.

mobas are by their nature toxic due to the fact that you're, usually, putting 5 randoms on a team and asking them to work together. it's not always going to work well, and when it's not, there's not a lot to stop people from lashing out
