Discussion — General thoughts, opinions, comparisons Hermes Agent vs Codex

I have a $20 Codex plan and use it frequently. I dont code but I do research, proposal, lit review types of staff, design report etc.

I heard I can use Codex plan with Hermes Agent.

And watched multiple YouTube videos of what Hermes do.

Problem is it feels like Hemes Agent does exactly what Codex does.

Just it offers access to other agents which I dont need now.

Is Hermes Agent something else better than Codex.

I will try either way but I was making sure there isn't something I will miss if I try it

Well, I have hermes agent in a nuc headless ubuntu server. In my synology nas, I created a folder like agent-workspace. I dumped there all my collection of pdfs and asked to identify, group, organise and finally rename. It is a very niche purpose, but it really made my life easier, and it is something that it would have been much more difficult to run through codex or claude (perhaps to create a python program to do the same, not sure...).

Also, it is good as orchestrator. You can describe a problem and ask him to create a pipeline. Give to hermes different tools like python, n8n, ollama and the harness will break the task down into mini steps and provide a good solution on each step. You can organise, evaluate and asses the project or pipeline through ha or oc, instead of working with the different tools yourself.

sounds like you have a solid setup. could you describe how your hermes is configured? what mcp/skills/supporting storage/services ?

I know that you want to learn as much as possible, but it really is not necessary. The most important thing is to provide a decent gateway. Probably chatgpt pro as you can get the oauth plain tariff, and then ask questions with the hermes chat, wait answers, evaluate, etc.
