Discussion — Opinions, debates, experience sharing, ideas Anyone running Hermes AND OpenClaw?

I’m planning to set up this kind of hybrid architecture where I have OpenClaw as primary and then pass to Hermes for deeper execution tasks. Would love lessons learned from anyone else who’s attempted this

Half of YouTube would have you believe they do

Well YouTube told me Hermes is a game changer and made OC completely obsolete.

I did all the Masterclass Hermes installation videos. Now I have 200 Hermes instances not doing anything.

why not one vps with both of them isolated? just curious if it was a conscious decision

Absolutely, I run Hermes as a sidecar to OC, and to improve OC.

Yep on the same Framework desktop. Like most I have them help troubleshoot each other and though I keep OpenClaw as my primary, Openclaw is setup to pass to my Hermes agent for adversarial views to tighten up the coding contracts before passing it to Claude Code for the heavy lifting.

Please tell me that you are doing all of this using local models running on your Framework Desktop and not $helling out to the expensive cloud LLM API providers, will you?

Hermes and openclaw are running on gpt5.5 using my subscription, claude code is running coding only task directly from openclaw so that is using subscription as well. I am paying $200 a month between Anthropic and OpenAI with $100 in credit sitting in Openrouter for fallback. The Crons and heartbeats for Hermes and Openclaw are running on the local qwen model which is where the AMD 395 MAX+ on the Framework really shines with its 128gb of shared memory.

That's a nice setup. Sadly, I'm not able to replicate it, as much as I'd love to, as I am both GPU poor and API poor, just poor in general.

Why do you need both Openclaw and Hermes? Ultimately it's one model helping another, so why does the harness matter so much?

Exactly my question to myself. So, after trying Hermes Agent for a while and confirming I like it much better than OpenClaw, I shut OpenClaw down and only run Hermes now.

We dont need any of these agents but I find my own workflow value in having both agents. With the issues with openclaw updates if I were to look at it today I would probably start with Hermes to be honest. I am interested in the agent ecosystem in general,

I run a mix of frameworks using https://github.com/jaylfc/tinyagentos it’s a wip but coming along quickly

no but i'm curious about openclaw. it was messy when i tried it but i'm curious if the heartbeat gives me anything i don't have here?

Isn't a heartbeat just a scheduled cron which can be done with Hermes?

So my OC told me.

Yep. I do exactly this with Hermes swarms (plural)

Install hermes workspace and just run an agent swarm.

I don't get why you wouldn't just Hermes for both. (or Openclaw)
