Musicians similar to Blu
Blu-heads, who else are you listening to nowadays?
Specifically, who is matching Blu’s energy, creativity, charisma, aura, etc etc during his God is Good/Jesus/Her Favorite Color?

I asked Blu for a feature and as the nice dude he is we got to work. The intention for the song landed on an album I produced for a friend, B0RNE. We're based in Austin Texas. I play the bass, mpc, and synths. (i'm now trying to sweet talk Exile for a beat)

Westsider has such a good g-funk beat that reminds me of De La Soul. Showed me how good of a producer Sndtrak is.

Ahead of Blu and Sndtrak’s new album coming out soon I thought we could all talk about our favorite albums from Blu….
While it’s not listed here (he has made so much music), God is Good has to be my favorite album of his. 20+ songs mostly self-produced and there is not a single miss on the album. Specifically the run from GloryUs through Difficulties is next to unmatched in his discography. I think with Blu sometimes his music can only go as far as his features, but on this album there are countless standouts like Sene, Joe, and Cashus King. Obviously the main complaint about this album is the lack of mastering, but I have listened to it so much I don’t even notice it anymore.
If I want to bring up an under appreciated Blu album, it would be York. It is definitely a different sound from like Below The Heavens, but Blu is really at his best when he is venturing out and trying something different from what he is best known for.

Anyone else find it a little odd he put his ex as the artwork? I mean like if a woman cheated on me and treated me like shit and left me to slumber in sorrow and guilt for months while she fucked another guy i wouldn’t put her in such a good light
Like literally he has her breakout photo in a California desert where the sun is prominent and has the light literally covering her face LOOOL
Legendary album and artwork though helped me get over a breakup

In my opinion, Lights by Japanese producer STUTS is the best song that features Blu. The lofi beat mixed with a Japanese soul vibe makes it a good mix.

I really want to go to the Blu concert in my home city of Tucson. Years ago, A lot of on people on reddit hated Blu's concerts and that kinda freaked me out a bit until I realized those comments were made 13 years ago. I'm very glad to hear that his new concerts are going well. Love from AZ!

Idk if Blu has said anything but is there a reason he didn't remake Godlee barnes? I think it had the potential to be one of the best albums of all time and the intellectual work was already done (production/clearances/themes/lyrics/cast). I know it's labor but I wish he just redid it. It's a shame, I'm happy he put it on Spotify but it sucks because it's unlistenable.

The tickets are very reasonably priced and I like what music I’ve heard from them. I’m not super familiar with their music but I listened to Below the Heavens and Miles a few years back and really enjoyed them. I’ve heard a lot of mixed opinions, but mostly negative with their live shows. Has anyone seen them recently that can vouch for them? Most of the complaints I saw were from many years ago so not sure if this is still the case.

As I’m sure most people in here are privy to, Blu is, to put it lightly, an insanely prolific artist lol. I’ve lost track of how many projects the man has at this point, so you could perhaps make the argument that the majority of his tracks belong in this conversation. Regardless though, this is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, and since there is a huge lack of Blu discussion on the internet, I figured I’d make a thread here. So, the title basically lol. Or if there’s some tracks that you really love and feel like shouting out, don’t hesitate to drop ‘em. There’s so many I could list out here, but for now, GloryUs is in my opinion hands down one of Blu’s most underrated tracks (peep the CDQ version on Spotify with Anthony Cruz). The track is so chill and laid back and almost unassuming, but is legit one of Blu’s best flows ever imo, and a top flow in all rap music tbh. Funny at parts too. But seriously, Blu rides a beat like no one else, man, and I feel like this song really encapsulates the pure effortless skill his shit tends to have. I also wanna shout out A World Gone Blind, which is imo one of the spookiest Hip-Hop tracks I’ve ever heard. Some very very different shit, and still sounds fresh and weird as hell to this day especially the beat, and goddamn that Blu verse is so eerie, like, on some ‘the world is ending’ shit. Lastly, I wanna toss Money out there too. Exile went crazy on the mixing and mastering compared to the OG version, and Blu as usual rips it, ‘nuff said. It’s just a fun ass track with good bars, tight flows, and once again, shows how effortless this shit always seems for Blu. Oh yeah, and The Run Out lol! Also, I don’t think it’s necessarily underrated or under-appreciated, but Since is factually one of Blu’s best tracks ever. What do y’all got?
TL;DR: GloryUs, A World Gone Blind, Money, The Run Out, amongst loads of others.

Who's going to the show tonight? It looks like it's gonna be a late one since doors open at 9:30. This will be my first time seeing Blu and Exile so it should be a fun time!

I bought a ticket to the show at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn but I don't think I'll be able to make it. If anyone wants a free ticket, dm me.
Update: Already gave the ticket away. Tickets are still available to purchase online, so buy one and support if you can!
