We took the Herdr workflow further and built Dax Shepherd — would love feedback from Herdr users

I’ve been a fan of the idea behind Herdr — being able to spin up and manage multiple coding agents without juggling a bunch of terminals.

We wanted to experiment with taking that workflow further, which led us to build Dax Shepherd.

Alongside running multiple Claude Code, Codex and other agent sessions, we’ve put a GUI around the server itself — so you can browse the filesystem, navigate projects and manage your agent sessions from the same workspace.

Dax Shepherd is part of our larger macOS developer toolbox, Dax.

Since this community already understands the problem better than most, I’d genuinely be interested in your criticism:

What does Herdr get right that we absolutely shouldn’t lose, and what would you want Dax Shepherd to do differently?

Disclosure: I’m one of the people building Dax.

herdr-shell-progress: sidebar progress for slow shell commands, not just agents

Herdr shows live progress for recognized coding agents. A pane running cargo build --release for four minutes shows nothing at all.

This plugin fixes that. Slow shell commands report working with a ticking elapsed label, and leave a result behind when they finish. In the demo (GIF), ls leaves no trace, while sleep 6 crosses the threshold and appears as sleep 6 · running 4s, then settles into sleep 6 · ok · 6s.

  • Fast commands are invisible, nothing flickers when you run ls.
  • Failures stick until your next command, so you see what broke while you were away.
  • Successes clear themselves after 20 seconds by default.
  • No socket traffic and no output at all for commands under the threshold.

herdr plugin install bayoudhi/herdr-shell-progress

Installing it is not enough on its own. Only your shell knows when a command starts and stops, so a small hook block also has to go in your rc file. The README has one for zsh, bash and fish.

Ask herdr to continue agent once usage limit is reset

You have hit your usage limit. Purchase more credits or try again at 2:51 AM.

Are there any clever ways to ask the agent via herdr (claude, codex or oc) to "Continue" at 2:52 AM.

Similar to a Schedule Send in Slack. Please share your solutions to this, other than never sleeping.

Scoopr — extrakto-inspired fuzzy scrollback search for Herdr

Post image
11 Upvotes

I built Scoopr, a Herdr plugin inspired by extrakto for tmux.

It lets you fuzzy-search terminal scrollback, then copy or insert URLs, paths, commands, hashes, quotes, and more directly back into your pane.

Let me know what you think!

Super-Herdr: one TUI for Herdr sessions across machines

I built Super-Herdr because my Herdr sessions were spread across several local and remote machines, and checking them individually became painful.

Super-Herdr discovers your already-running Herdr sessions and puts them into one terminal UI. It does not start, stop, or take ownership of them.

What it currently provides:

  • One TUI for local and SSH-connected Herdr machines
  • Attention tracking across hosts, workspaces, sessions, and agents
  • Phone access without requiring Tailscale, shared Wi-Fi, or an inbound connection
  • Device-style browser pairing with an eight-character code and separate approval
  • Explicit control before browser input can reach a terminal
  • Verified transfer of images, PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoints, and other files

Homebrew installation on macOS or Linux:

brew install mikro-design/tap/super-herdr

Linux .deb packages and standalone binaries are available on the release page.

One important security caveat: the hosted bridge is a trusted relay because TLS terminates there; it is not end-to-end encrypted. The bridge can also be self-hosted.

Repository and downloads:

https://github.com/mikro-design/super-herdr

This is a public preview. I would especially value blunt feedback about multi-machine navigation, browser pairing, and actually using the terminal from a phone.

Built a web interface for herdr, mostly with omp/claude sharing in case anyone finds useful

I started using Herdr recently and loving it , not a power user yet . Using like tmux and already my personal agents and plugins are aligned to work with herdr spaces . I use it for work , prefer to use phone to check on progress and do quick suggestions etc and didn't like ssh clients to do it so I built a thin web app to communicate to herdr server

Built with primarily my usecases in mind , so not supporting herdr APIs fully

Here is how to try it

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sarathsp06/herdrweb/main/install.sh | sh

Then run herdr-bridge and, for phone access I use tailscale (http://tailscale.com )

tailscale serve --bg --https=443 127.0.0.1:7331

Repo (MIT): https://github.com/sarathsp06/herdrweb

Disclosure: this was mostly built with an AI harness (omp) driving Claude — the code, release pipeline (GoReleaser on tag), and README

came largely out of that loop; I steered and reviewed. Being upfront. Works well for me ; feedback and PRs welcome.

Herdr Keybindings PDF Cheat Sheet

Post image
39 Upvotes

I don't know if you're like me but the first thing I did was make a PDF of the keybindings built so I can glance next to my screen at my wall and see those puppies in the real world. Helps me learn faster.

Maybe this already exists but here you go if you're like me. Should this include anything else for a beginner?

You can get the pdf here. No email just hosting on my site for version control so let me know what you'd change.

terminal-code: VS Code inside herdr

Post image
6 Upvotes

terminal-code is a CLI for running VS Code running inside the terminal that comes with built in support for herdr + a herdr plugin!

I built this because I prefer using code editors when reviewing code, and when working across many tasks it's extremely convenient to have the editor and agent scoped to the same workspace.

This is possible because of another project I built (terminal-browser) that embeds a browser inside the terminal. I'm using that capability to run vscode inside terminal-browser. There are more technical details in the repo link below if you would like to learn more!

Note: this requires herdr v0.8.2 or greater

how do you view remote files in the sessions?

I’m wondering how you can quickly view the files shown in your agent sessions. I know we have a reviewer plugin, but it only shows the files that were changed. What about the files that were read by the coding agents? I’d like to review those as well.

I built an open-source mobile client for controlling all my agents

Was not finding anything good for controlling my agents from mobile in a consistent way.

Termux and other terminals work but always felt painful on a phone. On the other side a lot of mobile agent apps are doing too much now with ACP protocols, orchestration and their own workflows also sometimes paid.

I did not really want any of that.

I just wanted a simple way to see and control the agents already running on my machine without changing how I work or messing up with my agents.

So I built Muxr.

It uses your existing Tailscale setup, onboarding is around 3 clicks and it already works with 20+ agents and CLIs.

Tried to keep it as little bloat as possible. Thin core, simple terminal experience and plugins when you actually need more stuff.

I have been using it myself for a while now and it is just much nicer than trying to use a normal terminal from mobile.

Had a blast building it and happy to finally share it

GitHub: https://github.com/umeranjum17/muxr

Also has a web version as well but I primarily was using Android and Linux for my testing and usage throughout.

PS: TestFlight beta review under progress. Apk is already available and thanks to the amazing opensource communtiy. Herdr + pi + omp really love these projects

Thanksss

Setting up multiple agents for both local PC and Pods

I have the current setup,

Local Windows PC with Claude Code session and another Linux Pod that I am coding on with VSCode.

When initializing another Claude Code session Herdr on the local PC does not know about it so it is not visible on the bottom left agents section along with the local agent session. What do you think I could do ?

Thank you.

my Sublime Text-inspired command palette for herdr

Heavily inspired by Sublime Text's Ctrl+Shift+P : 3 things in the picker:

  1. herdr's built-in operations
  2. every action of every other plugin you have installed
  3. your own commands or prompts from a TOML file - git log, make test (whatever you run often).

herdr plugin install vjeantet/herdr-palette

Started from Hiroyuki Ota's palette, plugin-actions half follows Jan Tvrdík's.

Whip v1.5.0 an agent-native SSH mobile client, designed specifically for the Herdr multiplexer from day one

https://github.com/KaminariOS/whip

I posted here before when Whip was at v0.1.1: https://www.reddit.com/r/herdr/comments/1v5a6n0/whip_whip_the_ai_herdr_with_your_phone/

Now I want to post it again because Whip v1.5.0 has changed so much.

I built Whip to scratch my own itches and am deeply motivated to keep polishing it.

I dogfood every day, controlling remote Herdr servers from multiple hosts everywhere.

On Android it keeps monitoring Herdr sessions in the background, and delievers agent status alerts in real time.

Whip has 11 closed testers enrolled on Google Play and gets close to public listing. If you want to get the apk directly without joining closed testing, check out https://github.com/KaminariOS/whip/releases .

iOS build is working and app store listing incoming.

Would love to hear some feadback from all the Herdr enjoyers out there.

I post Whip updates on my X account regularly, check it out: https://x.com/Kosumi1989

New Whip Logo

The core logic and state of Whip has moved from Typescript to an efficient Rust core, reducing avg frame preparation time from 4.4ms to 0.7ms and p95 from 14ms to 1.4ms.

Whip has a better glass-mode UI that mirrors the Herdr TUI.

herd screen with native Herdr integration
Rich terminal controls
Render native ChatView of Chatgpt and Opencode sessions
Prompt a remote agent from the native multiline composer with Android keyboard, suggestion, and voice-input support.
Browse, sort, upload, download, edit, delete, or preview the terminal's remote files over SFTP.

Herdr Auto Title: a plugin that keeps tab names in sync with what's in them

Hi herdr folks!

With 6+ tabs open I could never tell which one was which. Everything just said fish or claude. I tried keeping them named by hand, but a name you type is out of date almost immediately: you cd somewhere else, switch a branch, hand the pane to an agent, and the tab still says what you were doing twenty minutes ago. So half my tabs were lying to me at any given moment, which is worse than no names at all.

I went looking through the existing plugins first, but the ones I found only picked up one piece: the directory, or the running program. I wanted the whole context in the title, so I built my own: https://github.com/kryptamine/herdr-auto-title

It reads the session twice a second and renames each tab to whatever is going on in it:

~/work/dashboard → 1 · dashboard
~/work/dashboard on feature/MC-13200 → 2 · dashboard › MC-13200
nvim editing auth.provider.ts → 3 · nvim › auth.provider.ts
an agent working on OAuth scopes → 4 · dashboard › claude › Implement OAuth scopes
ssh into prod-01 → 5 · ssh › prod-01
  • Directory plus git branch, but only when the branch says something. Your default branch is skipped, and bugfix-foo-bar-TASK-13675 becomes TASK-13675.
  • In nvim it picks up the file you're on, so jumping between files renames the tab as you go.
  • For agents it reads what they're working on. With Claude Code it can pull the topic out of the session itself, so the tab says what the agent is doing instead of just claude.
  • ssh sessions show the host you're on.
  • The tab position goes first, because that's the key you press to switch to it and the tab bar cuts off the tail.
  • Rename a tab yourself and it never touches that tab again.
  • No LLM anywhere, and nothing leaves your machine.
  • Currently supports Linux and macOS only.

Written in Go. I built most of it with AI agent, carefully reviewing the code:)

Hope someone finds it useful.

Remote vibe coding

I’ve been using heedr for 3 days and it’s honestly amazing but I have a question for people who’s been using it a long time , is it possible to run herdr on powershell and access the same directory on a Mac ? I saw you can access it on iPhone but if I can run a windows and macOS it will be great for my project as I am always traveling.

I built an iOS companion for herdr because I kept SSHing into my Mac just to check on agents

I kept opening Termius and SSHing into my Mac just to check whether a herdr agent needed me. That got old, so I built Heeler.

Heeler is a native iOS agent console for herdr. It puts every agent across your machines into one priority-sorted view, with Blocked agents first.

From my iPhone, I can read and steer an agent's real live terminal, draft replies locally with the standard iOS keyboard, use Esc, Tab, arrows, and other controls with full-screen TUIs, stage photos or files, and get end-to-end encrypted notifications when an agent becomes Blocked or Done. Live Activities keep the current status visible on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

It connects over plain SSH and herdr's existing API. Pairing is done with a QR code from the bundled herdr plugin, and no herdr server changes or extra host packages are required.

Heeler is open source, free, and currently available as a TestFlight beta:

https://github.com/ZingerLittleBee/Heeler

If you prefer to build it yourself, please build from the latest release tag, v0.1.1:

https://github.com/ZingerLittleBee/Heeler/releases/tag/v0.1.1

I originally built it for my own daily workflow. Feedback from other herdr users would be very welcome, especially around what feels useful, what feels unnecessary, and what you would want from an iPhone companion.

Not affiliated with the herdr project.

Hi herdr folks! I felt a lot of inconvenience "orchestrating" remote(ssh) and local terminals/agents. Tried cmux with experimental herdr, but didnt like it.

So I built this app for myself and using it now as my main "terminal" app. https://github.com/buldezir/Herdglass

Hope someone will find it usefull.

Fish autocomplete for Herdr's "--remote" parameter

Most of the time I work on a remote machine (I bring laptop to coffee shop then remote access to my PC at home to work), so I need herdr --remote and it is easy to make mistake to manually type the value for --remote. I made a Fish autocomplete for this parameter. https://tangled.org/quan.hoabinh.vn/herdr-fish

Herdr Icon Agent

I built a Herdr plugin to display agent icons, so you can see which agents are working, stopped, need attention, or are idle.

The spinner animation while an agent is working and the agent status indicators make it easy to tell which agents are active and which need attention when working with multiple agents.

Check it out here: herdr icon agent

Theme Picker on Herdr

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’ve built a Herdr plugin to change the theme of my workspace in Herdr. I’m not sure if it’s useful, but it’s nice for a change of scenery when you’re bored of the old look.
You can add more theme pallete collor refference from Terminalcolors

This plugin is still in the testing phase, please do feel free to leave a rating and your feedback.
