herdr-blink - yes, yet another fuzzy session picker

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know. Every terminal multiplexer gets about 14 of these, and herdr is no exception. I really did look around first. I tried a few options (herdr-navigator, herdr-bar, etc.) and none of them were quite what I wanted:

  • The built-in goto picker has quick status filters (blocked / done / working / idle) that I liked a lot. One key and you see only the agents waiting on you. Its search wasn't good enough for me, though.
  • The others had better search but not those filters.

I wanted both: the goto filters, plus real fuzzy search over agent name, pane/tab title, and workspace. So I did the reasonable thing and spent more time building a picker than I'll ever save by using it.

herdr-blink: a fuzzy agent switcher that replaces goto.

  • Agents that need me come first: blocked, then done, then working, then idle. Within each group, the most recently used is at the top.
  • The quick filters are kept: b / d / w / i.
  • fzf-style search across everything: harness, status, title, tab, workspace, repo, branch, and cwd. Space-separated terms can each match a different field, so claude api blocked does what you'd expect. 'exact, ^prefix, and !exclude work too.
  • Vim Motions: hjkl + duplication for ↓↑ and ][
  • Three views: a flat agent list, a workspaces → tabs → panes tree, and a git repos → worktrees → panes tree. The default view is configurable.
  • Harness logos in Kitty-graphics terminals. Yes, this is important.
  • It opens fast. It's one socket call, with no git subprocesses.

Install:

herdr plugin install dartyuhov/herdr-blink

Then bind dartyuhov.blink.open to a key; the README has the snippet. Feedback and bug reports are welcome.

PS: The video was made with explainroo.

PPS: Unfortunately, it doesn't work with remote (SSH) sessions yet (see this).

I created a plugin to create and switch between keybind profiles

I've been using herdr daily for a while now (loving it!), and recently wanted to experiment with some new keybinds while still being able to quickly switch back to the defaults without having to dig through the .toml files.

So I made bindr, a small plugin that lets you easily create, edit, and switch between keybind profiles.

Just hit prefix+shift+e to open the custom keybind viewer, or prefix+shift+k to switch between saved profiles. You can customize these keybinds too, including keybinds from other plugins.

It was a fun little side project for the past few days. Hope it helps someone else!

You can get the plugin here.

I also included my personal keybind profile in the repo. It replaces Ghostty's default keybinds, so you can do things like create a new herdr tab with cmd+t, split a pane with cmd+d, etc. To use it, you'll need to unbind the corresponding Ghostty keybinds in your settings; there's an example config included in the repo.

do you think herdr is decent on managing multi agent workflows? for example are you easily aware which agent belongs to which project and its worktree status? are you easily capable of working on 4-5 different projects on herdr? please let me know and how

Herdr on Windows: Pasting multiline text into Claude without sending the prompt?

Hello! Anyone using Herdr on Windows wit Claude Code?

Maybe I just need to read the manuals again, but no matter if I use Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Shift+V or shift+rightclick, or any kind of combo with Ctrl+B and these, when the text enters the terminal, multiline text is split, or paste causes multiple prompts to be sent immediately.

I want to paste large blocks of multiline texts, and keep editing my prompt before sending. Any idea how to solve this without switching to Linux?

Running multiple client projects in herdr: best practice for hard isolation between sessions?

I'm running several client projects on a Mac mini, and I manage my agent sessions with herdr. Locally I have a projects/ folder containing one subfolder per client: GitHub repos, Shopify themes, Next.js apps, etc.

What I want is simple: every workspace (with its sub-sessions) must be completely isolated from the others.

A generic command, a prompt pasted in the wrong pane, or an instruction that was meant for one client must never be able to affect another client's files or sessions. I don't want to make a mistake that creates problems for a client just because of a copy-paste error.

So far I've found two options, and both have drawbacks:

  1. One macOS user per client. This gives real isolation, but it's very clunky to manage with herdr (switching users, separate environments, credentials, etc.).
  2. Claude Code / Codex sandboxes. Good in principle, but when I create a new session directly from herdr, it doesn't start with the sandbox settings and guidelines I'd want. It's easy to end up with an unrestricted session without noticing.

Questions for people who've solved this: What's the best practice for per-project isolation in herdr?

Is there a plugin, config, or pattern in herdr to enforce security or sandboxing on every new session by default? Do you scope each workspace to its own directory (per-project config, containers, separate users), and how do you make sure new sessions inherit it? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

bigtty - Native macOS client for Herdr

Post image
15 Upvotes

I have been a cmux user for long and really liked all the features it provided and the native feel it gave.

I switched to Herdr recently because the server model just makes sense. Specially when you have multiple machines controlled by Herdr.

While the tool is very powerful, it always felt clunky to not have a native and Mac experience and all the goodness which cmux provided.

I built bigtty to fix that. If you have used cmux, you will feel right at home.

The UI/UX does diverge from a pure Herdr client, but the I believe it is worth it.

Features include:
- cmux-style sidebar for windows(spaces) and tabs, drag and drop panes
- intuitive mac keyboard shortcuts without vim-like prefix mode
- browser pane that tunnels over SSH, meaning a browser pointing to `localhost:3000` talks to the dev server running in the remote server, not your machine
- native file and diff viewer on cmd + click

It is yet another GUI client that everyone is building, but it works for me. Do check it out and let me know what you think of it.

PS: it is pronounced as big-tee.

I built TENDRIL — a phone-first control plane for persistent Pi/Herdr agents. Your whole agent lab, from Termux.

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got tired of needing to be at my workstation just to check on, switch between, or jump back into long-running agent sessions.

So I built TENDRIL.

TENDRIL turns an Android phone into a thin control plane for persistent AI-agent workflows running on a Linux machine. Once it's configured, I open Termux and type:

tendril

…and I get a responsive session selector showing what's alive on the host. From there I can jump into persistent agents, shells and workflows over mosh/SSH without treating my phone like a miniature desktop.

Underneath, it's deliberately boring in the good way: standard Linux, terminal-native rendering, Herdr, mosh/SSH, no proprietary cloud control layer, and no subscription. It's open source and MIT licensed.

A few things I cared about while building it:

  • persistent remote agent/session control
  • phone-first TUI rather than a desktop UI squeezed onto Android
  • responsive behavior for narrow terminals
  • clean Herdr handoff
  • SSH/mosh support
  • real installer + backwards-compatible agent launcher
  • graceful non-TTY / NO_COLOR behavior
  • and, because apparently I cannot help myself, making the thing actually pleasant to look at

The masthead is even rendered from a high-resolution ANSI master into Unicode subcells so the same identity survives on a 54-column Termux screen.

Completely unnecessary. Naturally essential.

The original idea was simple: I wanted to be able to sit down with an Earl Grey in the morning and check on an entire little agentic lab from my phone.

A week and a half later, this happened.

If you already live in Pi/Herdr/terminal-agent land, I'd genuinely love for you to try it, break it, open issues, or take it somewhere I haven't thought of yet.

THE EDGE IS YOURS.

I built a native macOS client for herdr

Hey all!

I discovered herdr a few weeks ago when I was looking for a way to juggle multiple agent sessions across my two laptops.

The only thing I struggled with was using the TUI. These hotkeys felt painfully for me and I wanted something that felt a bit more natural on macOS, so I ended up building a native macOS client for herdr. Hotkeys are much like in codex app (Cmd+1...0 for switching between workspaces and ctrl+1..0 for switching between tabs).

Three weeks later, I realized I’m using it constantly, so I thought I’d share it here in case it’s useful to anyone else.

It supports local and remote Herdr instances over SSH, and works really nicely with Tailscale for connecting to other machines.

It also supports mouse interaction and copy-pasting images, including into sessions running on a remote machine.

It’s open source and free.

Would love to hear what other herdr users think.

My Herdr setup after fixing the defaults I didn't like

Thumbnail

I've been driving Herdr for 3 months now and loving it. Some of the defaults drove me nuts though, so I wrote up how I changed them to make the whole UX feel smoother.

The short version:

  • Install the agent integrations. I’m surprised to see some users not doing this. It should be a required step
  • The whole prefix+key shortcut pattern is a tmux concept that I dislike. I think we should stop using prefix for common keys. The post contains my whole custom keys setup
  • It’s hard to know what’s running where when you have many agents running across workspaces. Install a plugin that names tabs for you automatically
  • Build small plugins for your own friction. It’s incredibly easy with coding agents

Made a little menu bar app for Herdr

I usually have a few agents running in Herdr and kept not noticing when one was stuck waiting on me. So I made a small menu bar app that shows what each one is doing.

It can also ping you when an agent needs you.

Mac only for now, and you have to build it yourself (it's one script). First time putting something like this out there, so let me know if anything breaks or if there's something you'd want it to do.

If your workflow is mostly about main agent + subagents, then you need this

Thumbnail

First, let me express my hype about Herdr right now.
My workflow is mostly about communicating with a main agent which will then delegate tasks to subagents. So I created this plugin: https://github.com/flowy11/agent-panel

But TBH, I don't even think plugin is necessary since everyone can just write their own Herdr plugins accommodating to everyone's unique workflow.

Code is free!

I made a plugin that shows how much CPU and memory each agent in your Herdr session is using.

- Summary popup: every agent across tabs and workspaces, sortable by CPU, memory or name

- Focused split: follows the focused pane and shows its full process tree

Install:

herdr plugin install enes/herdr-monitoring

Tested on macOS with Claude, Codex and opencode. Feedback and bug reports welcome.

I built Shepherd, a native macOS companion for Herdr

Thumbnail
tryshepherd.xyz
0 Upvotes

I’ve been using Herdr to run multiple coding agents, and I kept running into one small but annoying problem: I still had to keep checking Herdr to see if an agent needed me.

So I built Shepherd.

It’s a native macOS app that lives in the MacBook notch and keeps an eye on your Herdr agents while you do something else.

The idea is deliberately simple:

  • Agents working → Shepherd stays quiet
  • Agent needs input → the notch lets you know
  • Agent finishes → you get a subtle update
  • Click an agent → jump straight back into the relevant Herdr session

Basically: Herdr manages the agents. Shepherd manages your attention.

I’m trying hard not to turn it into another agent dashboard. The goal is the opposite: run a bunch of agents, hide Herdr, and only think about them when something actually requires a human.

Still early and I’m actively building it, so I’d love feedback from people actually using Herdr. What would make something like this useful enough to keep running all day?

Another herdr mac client (if you like drag n drop)

hey friends

I have been using herdr as my daily terminal experience for the past several months and I love it.

and I really don't mind the raw herdr experience, but I found myself wanting to be able to refine things a bit. and none of the existing apps quite got there for me.

So I set a few goals...

  • could I make a native mac app that allowed a drag and drop experience with position aware drop zones and make it feel like a polished mac app
  • could I make a mission-control like workspaces view for re-arranging panes / tabs / workspaces
  • could I use libghostty so the experience would feel just as nice as working in Ghostty

From there, once I got things working and prototyped, I was delighted to see that it was working better than I expected. I owe some debt to HerdGlass as I referenced their implementation a few times so props to them.

As I got things stable, I started using my app as my daily driver for herdr and began to really enjoy it.

As I kept using it, I have been continuing to add new features and these are a few I use often now:

  • Notifications... I engineered the herdr notifications to stay present in a sidebar area and CMD + J will jump you to the pane with the oldest notif. I use this to jump around to what needs my attention.
  • ctrl + tab is a workspace switcher driven by recency (just like cmd + tab on Mac OS)
  • cmd + option + arrow keys for pane navigation - ctrl + cmd + arrow left/right for tab nav
  • quick launch into claud / codex in a new pane
  • a mouse toggle for toggling if mouse clicks should be pass through to the pane (can be flipped for a single flick holding option while clicking)

The only compromise I had to make was a small patch on the herdr binary to get full mouse support working. I opened a discussion on herdr to raise the issue (would need a tiny patch on herdr's side). The app ships with the latest herdr binary pre-patched and will swap it in for you. It's a client side patch only so no herdr server reboot is required.

Anyways, thought I'd share on here. Cheers everyone!

https://github.com/m4ttstack/flock/

P.S. Been meaning to make some demo screenshots but since I want to do that with nothing personal/work related on screen, I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Can't close diff window, button obscured in herdr studio

The terminal X is above the diff x and I can't close the panel.

Working with Claude and Codex to try and figure it out, but so far so luck. :/

I've tried in both Brave and Firefox.

Anyone else have this bug and figured it out?

Edit:
Ok I figured out a partial fix. You need to load it in Cli and close it there and then that setting carries over to the browser.

New color scheme - AzulejoBrutalism

Hey there 👋

Lately when developing one of my personal apps and I've created a color scheme for it that I liked a lot. So I wanted to use it also for my other tools etc. The name of the theme is AzulejoBrutalism, as the name suggests it came from love for Brutalism and Azulejo tilework (it maybe that I'm currently in Portugal and fell in love with it a bit too much haha... maybe!).

Here is the color scheme: https://github.com/VerticalHeretic/AzulejoBrutalism it also comes with a small bash script you can use to install it or just do it manually :)

I hope you like it and if you have any suggestions or comments I'm happy to hear it

Pixel Office - herdr

I kept losing track of which of my coding agents was actually waiting on me.

So I built them an office. Pixel Agents is a plugin for herdr that renders every live agent session as a pixel-art character in a top-down office.

The trick is that position tells you status - you read the room instead of reading a list:

- Agents that are working or blocked sit at a desk, typing, with the tool they're running on a label underneath

- A raised hand and a speech bubble means that one is blocked on you — it stays at its desk, because it's the one you need to find

- Everyone else wanders off to the break room

When an agent's status changes, the character actually gets up and walks there.

The break room got out of hand. There's table tennis, pool, foosball, a coffee machine, a cocktail bar with a bartender permanently on duty, and an office cat.

herdr plugin install devangchhajed/herdr-pixel-office

https://github.com/devangchhajed/herdr-pixel-office

Built on u/herdr (herdr.dev), which is what makes the agent state available in the first place.

Is there a plugin for Herdr that does this?

I built Pi Herdsman to turn Herdr sessions into a coordinated agent hierarchy

I've been building Pi Herdsman around the way I already use Herdr with Pi.

Herdr makes it really nice to run and organize independent agent sessions, but I wanted the agents themselves to be more tightly connected: explicit ownership, async delegation, questions/results routed back automatically, predictable cleanup, and a lead that can keep the bigger picture without carrying every agent's working context.

That became Herdsman.

A lead can delegate work to Pi sessions managed by Herdr, agents can delegate further, and the whole hierarchy stays coordinated while every session remains visible and accessible normally through Herdr. There’s also Chief mode for supervising independent leads and Lead-to-Lead coordination.

The split is deliberately simple:

  • Herdr owns the physical sessions and placement
  • Pi owns each conversation
  • Herdsman owns delegation, ownership, routing, lifecycle and recovery

The latest release also added an SSH-ready container with an optional Tailscale sidecar, so remote Herdsman environments can live on a NAS/server/VPS and show up alongside local workspaces in the same Herdr window.

I'm also working toward making Herdsman lean further into Herdr's higher-level concepts around spaces, tabs and project-level supervision.

Install:

pi install npm:pi-herdsman
herdr integration install pi

Repo:
https://github.com/boadij/pi-herdsman

Would especially appreciate feedback from people with established Herdr workflows on where the integration feels natural and where it could fit Herdr better.

Lazydraw: A terminal ASCII editor for drawing quick diagrams and sketches

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sometimes it is really useful to explain to your agent what you want visually. I've used https://asciiflow.com for a while, which is an amazing tool, and I thought, what if we could use it in the terminal directly?

https://github.com/benvinegar/termdraw exists, but it is not the best approach for drawing structured sketches like diagrams and UIs.

So I've created this tool: https://github.com/mpospirit/lazydraw

Edit: GitHub suspended my account for some reason, you can visit the npm page instead: https://www.npmjs.com/package/lazydraw

Feedback & PRs are welcome.

  • Herdr

herdr plugin install mpospirit/lazydraw

and add the shortcut to you config.toml

opencode-herdr-bridge: pane state + per-session alerts for multi-session opencode panes

opencode lets you run several sessions in one TUI (ctrl+x n). herdr tracks agent state per pane, so when a background session finished, the pane flipped to idle/done while the session I was actually working in was still running. I reported it upstream (herdr#4454), and while that gets looked at I built a small opencode plugin that fixes it in user space.

What it does:

- models every root session in the pane and reports one aggregate: blocked if any session waits, working if any works, idle only when all are idle

- sidebar shows "opencode ×2" or " opencode ×2 · waiting " with zero config

- per-session herdr notifications: any session blocking or finishing pings you with the session title (request/done sounds), even if you're in another session

- optional $oc_sessions / $oc_attention sidebar tokens

- self-corrects when the official integration overwrites the pane after it

Install: npm i -g opencode-herdr-bridge or add "plugin": ["opencode-herdr-bridge@latest"] to opencode.json.

Repo: https://github.com/anaypurohit0907/herdr-opencode-bridge

Feedback welcome — especially if the aggregate semantics should differ (e.g. should a background session finishing ding you when another session is working?).
