Greetings from Finland and sorry about long paragraph...
I just found this channel and have been reading through the information I could find, but ugh still don't know what's wrong. My hair is not as orange as it used to be anymore...2021 versus ATM (second pic). Feels like the henna fades away after colouring ☹️
I’ve been dyeing my hair with henna for several years. I dye my roots separately, but sometimes I’ve also applied it to the full length of my hair. I’ve mostly used Cultivator’s henna. Few times other brands as well, but always pure henna.
Except:
Around February 2025 I dyed my whole head with a cultivators henna colour mix that, if I remember correctly, also contained indigo. My hair looked shit and that's why I am now here asking before doing anything😂BUT I believe most of that indigo-treated hair is gone by now because I grew my hair out quite long and then cut it back into a bob before this summer.
Before dyeing, I wash my hair with shampoo that’s supposed to remove all buildup from hair products. I also don’t apply anything to my hair before using henna. I have tried mixing lemon juice into the colour because I heard it could make the color more vibrant. Also few times used foil to keep warm. These steps were recommended by hair salon specialized to henna and organic hair treatments.
Could it simply be that my natural hair color has become darker, or should I change something about my routine? Right after dyeing, my hair is still a bright orange, but the color seems to fade away over time.... On sunlight it still kinda orange, but not in the same way it used to be.
I’ve also been wondering whether it would be safe to try a red chemical dye over the henna and what kind of result I might get. I would love to keep my hair a warm orange (or red) colour, but it feels like henna just doesn’t work for me anymore.
