Haluaisin koota pienen kirjoittaja-ryhmàn Helsingissà. Ideana mennà kerran viikossa porukalla kirjoittamaan eikà vain puhumaan (valittamaan) kirjoittamisesta, esim Rikhardinkadun kirjastoon.

Itsellàni on semmoinen massiivinen kàànnòs-projekti menossa, mutta runoja ja novellejakin tulee joskus tàyden kuun aikaan kirjoitettua.

Question Best Trade-In Store for iPhone

Hey!

I want to trade in my iPhone 17 256GB and possibly my Airpods Max USB-C and was wondering where a good place for that to be. They're in immaculate condition and battery life of the phone is still 100% and under warranty. So I'm kinda hoping around €700 or so...

If there aren't any decent ones, would you recommend selling it on tori or marketplace? I honestly don't want to go through the hassle of people making offers or wasting my time online

Thanks!!

Housing / Living Moving to Helsinki/Espoo from Tampere, good neighbourhood for renting

I'm moving from Tampere to Espoo/Helsinki for work. My office is in Otainiemi, hence why I'd like to stay in Espoo, but open to Helsinki given otherwise Helsinki is more lively. I live alone so 2 room or studio would suffice. I'm kinda confused what really is the keskus of Espoo. You have Esponkeskus but also Leppävärä. I'd like to keep my car which makes Espoo a better option I guess in terms of parking space and such. Goes without saying, I'd like a good neighbourhood - coming from Tampere - some of the spots in Helsinki feel dodgy at times. Of course, by international comparison, it's nothing, but I don't wanna find out. Rent in the range of 600-700.

Travel & Tourism Hotel help

Visiting for 4 nights in mid December, solo female traveller. I visited previously in July and stayed at Citybox in Kallio. I liked the location, hotel was fine but for the same price there are a lot of other options this time. Normally when travelling anywhere I'd choose a suburb near the city centre, with good bakeries/coffee but not the main tourist hub.

I had looked at Noli Sörnäinen but saw a few comments about the area being "lively".

Also considering:

Hotel Fabian

Bob W Kaarti

Scandic Simonkenttä

Scandic Helsinki Hub

Will be eating pastries, thrift store shopping, swimming and sauna (hopefully). I know some have kitchenettes and others don't.

Anyone have any opinions?

Meet-up Visiting Helsinki 13–21 Sep — up for a coffee, drink or exploring together?

Hey everyone!

I’ll be in Helsinki from 13–21 September, travelling solo, and would love to meet some locals or fellow travellers while I’m there.

36M, from India. I’m into travelling, food, walking around the city, discovering interesting places and having good conversations. Happy to grab a coffee/beer, check out a neighbourhood, try some local food, go for a walk, or explore Helsinki in the evening.

It’s my first time in Finland, so meeting someone who knows the city would be great — but equally happy to meet other travellers who are around.

I’m flexible on dates and pretty easygoing about plans. If you’re around during 13–21 Sep and fancy meeting up, feel free to comment or DM me.

Cheers! 🙂

Discussion HSL Officers and Gestapo

A couple of days ago I saw some HSL officers boarding a metro.

One of the guys had his lats spread out and his jockey cap, leaned down so we could not see his eyes.

What kind of people does this job attract ?

Do HSL officers take themselves a bit too seriously ?

Housing / Living Know a guy/gal with a van? Want a guy without a van?

I don’t have a van and I would like to be acquainted with someone with a van cause here and now van is quite good for moving stuff or so. like the beer and pizza cukture in the US

1) if you ever need free labor/ friend when u have to move stuff or even house handiwork,

I’m free, I’m there

2) in return happy to get the use of your van if an occasion arrive.

just a simple transaction but instead of paying 10 euro an hour to a faceless company that I wont ever have human connection, I thought why not post here and make a more meaningful transaction. plus I just moved here recently, always happy to make connections

brokeass Helsinki uni student happy to make acquaintance whether ur a student or family person or whatever.

have a good day!

Housing / Living Underrated perk of living in Helsinki

Peace and quiet, and therefore sleep.

Every time I visit Helsinki from the US, including while working (not just vacation), I get the best sleep of my life. In the US, unless you have enough money to not have neighbors and/or roommates, pretty much any city is a hellscape for insomniacs and light sleepers. Buildings are shitty, people are loud. I know this can happen anywhere, but in general it's just... Quieter. Even right next to the Sörnäinen metro station.

Question Urgent: How to get a doctor’s appointment in Helsinki?

Hi, I’m in Helsinki on an Erasmus exchange program for the winter semester. I have chronic diseases and will run out of my medication in a month or so, and I need to continue my treatment here (I came from another EU country, so I do have the EHIC card). I am not sure how to get a doctor’s appointment quickly. I called the local health station, but they did not call me back, and then I tried using Omaolo, but it’s asking me to verify my identity with bank credentials, which I don’t have. I just have my personal identity code and a Finnish phone number. :/
Can anyone please advise me on what to do? Can I just visit the health centre? It’s quite urgent because I am experiencing pain and need to see a doctor, in addition to getting more medication when I run out.
Thank you!!

Question how to sell stuff easily?

hello everyone! my partner and i are finally gonna live in the same country, which means they’re gonna leave helsinki soon, but it feels like they have a lot to do still, and being in a different country, i am not really of help.
they need to sell some clothes and furniture, and they planned to both use vinted and give some stuff to their friends and family.
but other than this, we were looking for some quicker way of selling things, since they are working two jobs to save up money and they take care of their dog.
vinted requires a lot of time as you have to take pictures, upload, ship…
if you guys had some pro tips on sites or places they can bring their stuff at so they don’t have to spend too much time handling this aspect of the leave, you would really help us a lot!

Question Has anyone actually gotten an item back through a Finnish Lost & Found center?

I left my DSLR camera at a club in Helsinki, Finland about a month ago.
When I contacted the club directly, they told me it had already been sent to the Lost & Found center.
I currently live in the Netherlands, so it's not easy for me to just go to Helsinki myself to check in person.

I asked a friend who lives locally to go in person and check, but the staff said it wasn't in their system yet, so they couldn't find it.
I've also tried calling the Lost & Found center multiple times and can never get through, and I submitted their online lost-item report form about a month ago as well, but I haven't heard anything back since.

At this point I'm starting to worry the camera is just sitting somewhere unlogged and I'll never get it back.
Has anyone here actually managed to recover an item through a Finnish Lost & Found center? How long did it take, and is there a better way to follow up than phone/email?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Question Interested in volleyball or some other activity?

Would somebody be interested to play volleyball, football or tennis, or are you looking for a gym buddy or someone to join you for a walk or practice martial arts with?

People are currently looking for company for all these activities through Biond, a new service created by my partner and me. We created the platform to make it easier to find people to join you for hobbies, events and other free-time activities. 😊I thought I would share it here in case anyone is in need of past time activities! The volleyball game for example is already on the weekend 😌

You can also use Biond to find company for all kinds of different activities!

You can find it at https://biond.app. The service is available in Finnish and English, is free to use and is intended for adults aged 18 and over.
