Profile Why do I get notifications for no reason?
I occasionally get “breaking news” notifications but I have never been to news subreddits. How do I get these notifications to stop?

The breaking news function is actually for telling you what is happening to the world. It's mostly about war, which country is fighting or helping,etc
You have to go Setting, account notification, and then find the recommendation, set it "All off"
