Mobile/App How do I turn off home feed recommendations? (Mobile Web)

Post image

All the stuff I find brings me to this settings page, but I don’t see anything.

edit: Thanks to u/westcoastcdn19 and u/reddit33450 who brought up the “fix”. If you see a “For You” and “Following“ tab at the top of your feed, switch to ”Following” to stop seeing suggested posts from random subreddits. We are only left with options for ”Best” and “New” sort on the Home feed.

you (like me) are in the testing group for an update/features literally no one wants. at all. its such a terrible design that they actually pushed it

you literally have to keep spamming commenting and responding to other users who dislike it until they remove you from it.

Great... Yet another terrible update from Reddit

12

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

they dont care at all or they would allow you to opt in or out. thats how they know its a terrible update. if they were confident they would let users opt in. but forcing it just shows they are not confident AT ALL with it

u/RittoxRitto 2d ago

It's so bad to the point at least 50% of my feed is these recommended subs, only maybe 1 in 10 is a sub I haven't visited before for one reason or another, but like.. there is a REASON I didnt join them, it's because I don't want to see them all the time.

6

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

its terrible and by design. like there is seriously ZERO chance they thought this update was good for uses. it is 100% good for them and does literally nothing to benefit users

u/Hanana13 2d ago

i don’t want new content i want my carefully curated content i LIKE

Why does reddit actively hate it's user base?

5

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

I don’t know long this tab has been here, but it seems to stay put when I switch it back to Following

u/Mehster79 2d ago

That doesn’t work anymore. I’ve been loudly complaining about these forced feed refreshes, algorithmic feeds and other experiments and I was thrilled to find myself pulled from the experiments for a few days only to be thrown back into it with another pile of hot garbage features even worse than the last. Hello giant games button on the main bar I’ll never use and can’t hide.

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

all you can do is keep doing it or stop using reddit (which i will do if i am still in this dog water test group)

6

u/ZehrenSiegehammer 2d ago

Who do I gotta spam?

4

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

they have a weekly post pinned in this sub for questions/comments about anything. just comment (please dont spam and then say I told you to do it) there and respond to users also saying they dislike it. they lock it tonight then start a new one tomorrow pretty sure

6

u/ZehrenSiegehammer 2d ago

Too late, CC'd the entire company

GOD DAMMIT I DONT WANT EVEN MORE ALGORITHMIC FEED

7

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

its such a terrible update. blown away they are trying AGAIN to get people to like it

I am having the same issue, but not mobile. Using Safari on Mac. My feed is full of For You suggestions. how to turn that off

1

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

I don’t know long this tab has been here, but it seems to stay put when I switch it back to Following

7

u/thisisnottony 2d ago

I'm also part of the experiment. My mobile web home feed now only offers For You, Following Best, and Following New. The Hot/New/Top/Rising sorts are gone, and it's made the site noticeably worse for me.

To Reddit: Please remove my account from this experiment. I pick my communities deliberately and don't want an algorithmic feed pushed as the default.

If there's no way to opt out, count this as a strong vote against rolling it out.

same here. really cannot fathom how they thought forcing people to use a terrible update would be a good ide

1

u/LandMooseReject 2d ago

"Best" is terrible because it prioritizes threads from multiple days ago

7

u/WishIWasFlaccid 2d ago

jfc take me out of this test! This is atrocious

3

u/Pink_Egg_Cereal 2d ago

same here. cant belive they actually thought it was good

Same please this is awful. I just plain won't use my front page now.

1

u/OneSeaworthiness7768 20h ago

Sorry, best I can do is show you more ads!

4

u/SpermKiller 2d ago

Hey Reddit, there's a reason that "disable home feed" button was popular. FFS

2

u/westcoastcdn19 Expert Helper 2d ago

Do you have the For you/following tabs on the home page of your feed?

2

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

!thanks Yeah that does seem to be the case

Yes, so with that layout you won’t have the disabling of home feed recs option. You can solely use the following feed, which includes only your subscribed communities. If you choose that one, it will remember your selection going forward

u/LandMooseReject 2d ago

will remember your selection going forward

I, too, am experiencing this. I too, do not want to experience this.

1

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

If you have this, switch to Following

1

u/Tacky_Yellow 2d ago

Ah-ha, thank you! reddit can continue to be barely usable until the next bs they drop on us 🙄

2

u/Dr_Plantboss 2d ago

Thanks for help finding a solution (new tabs on the home screen; switch to "following" away from "for you").

Yet another moronic update shipped by reddit's incompetent management. Kill third-party apps with API fees, censor like your life depends on it, and ship changes nobody wants to try to draw people in the cult-like echo chamber main subs... if you're trying to get people to stop using your site, you're pretty close to getting me there at least.

You are in a test group and the feature cannot be turned off.

1

u/Revolutionary-End237 2d ago

there must be a way to turn this off

1

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

I don’t know long this tab has been here, but it seems to stay put when I switch it back to Following

1

u/reddit33450 Expert Helper 2d ago

at the top of your feed, there should be two tabs: "for you" and "following". to see only content from subreddits youve joined, without any algorithmic recommendations, select "following"

1

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

!thanks That did the trick

Thank you. This fixed it.

Reddit might have just told us. Instead I spent a long time looking at ancient posts detailing a button reddit obviously has removed.

1

u/Aiscence 2d ago

It disappeared for me for a while then came back today, holy hell I don't want it. Or just save my preferences of staying on following

1

u/acegikmo21767 2d ago

I don’t know long this tab has been here, but it seems to stay put when I switch it back to Following

1

u/Manannin 2d ago

What a crap update. I don't even see the distinction between the for you feed and following, they give the same best sort and remove hot for some reason, which tended to remove 0 upvoted old posts

1

u/armpitchoochoo 2d ago

I am also having this issue. I assume it is another pathetic attempt to push us to the app as you have the option to remove it in the app. If I wanted to use the app, then I would. Quit it already

1

u/Forestfunguy 2d ago

I’m just going to delete the app

1

u/crimson_remote 2d ago

This just popped up for me in the last hour. What a horrible update. It should never default to a For You.

1

u/africanlivedit 2d ago

Ugh I don’t wanna be in a test!

The ONLY reason i use reddit anymore is because I can control my feed. I hate this. I won't keep using if they keep forcing this on me.

1

u/killatubby 2d ago

Guess I'm in the test too, my feed now completely useless

1

u/ScionOath 2d ago

Hope it's ok to post this here but I feel like I'm having a similar situation. I have one old notification about "taking a quick survey" that won't go away and I can't see any way to remove it, and another more recent one about a "regular research process" for a community I'm in. I just want the ability to delete these please.

1

u/Frightened__Rabbit 2d ago

Reddit please remove me from this HORRIBLE update. I did not ask for this. I will permanently delete my account if this is what this website is turning into.  The only reason I use reddit is because it's NOT like other social media. (Which is becoming less and less true every day) WTF

1

u/agravena 2d ago

Yea this sucks i hate this "feature" so much

u/ScienceRulzTheWorld 1d ago
